An Obama Win Will Be More Than Historic
IBD Editorials ^ | 10.31.08 | Dr. Thomas Sowell

Some elections are routine, some are important and some are historic. If Sen. John McCain wins this election, it will probably go down in history as routine. But if Sen. Barack Obama wins, it is more likely to be historic — and catastrophic.

Once the election is over, the glittering generalities of rhetoric and style will mean nothing. Everything will depend on performance in facing huge challenges, domestic and foreign.

“Some elections are routine, some are important and some are historic.

Performance is where Barack Obama has nothing to show for his political career, either in Illinois or in Washington.

Policies that he proposes under the banner of “change” are almost all policies that have been tried repeatedly in other countries — and failed repeatedly in other countries.

Politicians telling businesses how to operate? That's been tried in countries around the world, especially during the second half of the 20th century. It has failed so often and so badly that even socialist and communist governments were freeing up their markets by the end of the century.”

LOL! I’d like to see them try to infiltrate into my rural setting. They’d be discovered so fast they wouldn’t have time to unpack.

In my defense, I posted the whole article, copyright notice and all. Since I don’t tear the mattress tag off either I thought I’d put just a link to the story. :)

Good for you . I may not know; but it seems that a paragraph or two and a link is okay/permissible.

Posting the total article is in violation of copyright.

It is helpful to get the gist of the article (at least to me it is).

No defense necessary. Simply comment.

Thank you, for the posting.

You didn't include not the most important line in the article. It's also one of the most chilling yet believable things I've ever heard.

America has never been a conquered country, so it may be very hard for most Americans even to conceive what that can mean. After France was conquered in 1940, it was reduced to turning over some of its own innocent citizens to the Nazis to kill, just because those citizens were Jewish.

Do you think our leaders wouldn't do that? Not even if the alternative was to see New York and Los Angeles go up in mushroom clouds? If I were Jewish, I wouldn't bet my life on that.

Oh, geez. Stupid typo.

*You didn’t include the most important line in the article.

Ignore that “not” in the first post. Grrr. Time to go find some coffee.

It’s a duplicate anyway. It’ll probably get taken down by the mods.

Hey, I wasn't trying to be critical. I just read this article a few days ago on here and that line chilled me so I thought I'd point it out. Since you're a Thomas Sowell fan, maybe you'd like to get on the Thomas Sowell ping list. His articles get posted on here as soon they come out. You can Freepmail or ping jazusamo to get on. It's well worth it.

How about this - we all just refuse to work? Demand that Obama pay for all our needs? Don't pay your mortgage and demand laws be changed that your house should be free and all your basic needs met regardless of whether or not you work.

They refuse to work - we refuse to work.

We'll see how friggin fast it all unravels and collapses the system when the producers stop producing and then that will be the end of Socialism in America. They “Ride the Dole” in Britain, and its collapsing and they're going broke.

Hey, whatever it takes to purge Marxism from the land. Anarchy's just fine by me for a time. We still have a shitload of nukes, so nobody will try to invade lest the nukes be unleashed. Meanwhile, we can just fight it out and may the best philosophy win.

See, their plan to take us quietly into Marxism only works if we go along with them and agree to be their slaves.

Use the Limbaugh - “Demonstrate an absurdity by being absurd”. Simply demand their plan only on steroids and it would collapse the system. Use it against them.

Hey, just an idea.

Mea culpa. I'm stressed from early this morning.

Ironically, it was that line you posted that chilled me but lack of sleep and coffee conspired against me.

Dr. Sowell is a genius. Yet, most Americans don’t know him let alone read him.

He has absolutely no cred in the black community, either. As one of my acquaintances once said, “I’d call him the same name his nephews call him.”

Would that be the “N” word?

He is indeed a man of clesr vision. Rare in all men.

No, not that name.

His first name is Thomas and he spoke of his nephews.
