Are people going over the stories about the people in Obama's infomercial ala the way the media did to Joe the Plumber?
For example, Obama's first story was about "Larry and Juanita Stewart" of Sardinia, Ohio. Supposedly, they needed to mortgage their home of 10 years to pay for medical bills.
Sardinia's in Brown County, Ohio. A check of their property tax records show no Larry and Juanita Stewart owning property in Sardinia. http://brownauditor.ddti.net/
And a check of the Brown County recorder's website doesn't show a Larry Stewart involved in a transaction, either a purchase or a lien, for property in Sardinia. http://www.landaccess.com/sites/oh/brown/shared/tract/tract_name_results.php
I also can't find recrods for Larry (or Lawrence) or Juanita Stewart in neighboring county websites.
All right - I watched the video. A few thing jumped out at me. I thought it might be huge medical expenses (heart surgery, liver transplant, etc.) but it the wife has arthritis. Not fun, but not the bank-breaking health issue I thought of. Of course arthritis is pretty common at that age so it targets more viewers.
I also wonder where the eight children are in all of this? I know we all want to be self-sufficient, but I know lots of folks that take care of their parents, live in the same house, etc. I would hope that their family is helping them out.
http://www.kansascity.com/775/story/866839.html has more information about Bryan and Rebecca Johnston and their brood.
Oh, that's an attack against Obama, who has left his aunt living in poor conditions while he rakes in dough.
They failed to get insurance after that. They said they were planning on a good retirement, so it’s not like they were caught by surprise...it’s just that they didn’t take steps to get insurance in advance.
I feel bad for them. But I don't think that the right thing to do is to grab more money from others because of their errors.
You mean those people in infomercials are actors?
Mr. Stuart is going to find it harder to repair his house as he ages.
When my widowed mother was Mr. Stuart’s age, she did not feel she could care for the home she had lived in for 25 years. She sold it and moved to a one-bedroom apartment in town. When she was 88 she moved across the country to live with us.
Many retirees in my family have downsized. Most of them have bought smaller homes in an area that has many services for the elderly.
The Johnston’s certainly have a nice home and don’t appear under nourished. It says he works. Does she? What do they pay for the son’s sports. Plenty of Americans have both partners work. We all have to budget so can they. This appears to be a family in no distress, but not getting to live with no thought to cost—join the club!
Not to nit-pick, but they said rheumatoid arthritis ... that's an autoimmune disease and the meds can be more expensive. However, that is often the doctor's fault ... prescribe the $2000 a month med instead of the $4 a month one that works just as well when you start. But that is the patient's fault for not researching and reading before they see the doctor ... 3000 square feet ... they should have enough space in that house for a computer to research meds.
I noticed that the actors, I mean citizens, in the Obamafomercial seemed to all have something in common.
Retired Railroad worker: likely a Union Member
Teacher: member of a huge and powerful Union
Auto workers: both members of a large and powerful Union
So, my question is: since these Unions are for the most part looking out for their members benefit, even above any success of the work they purport to do, WHY don’t they:
1) make sure that health benefits of some kind are available after retirement?
2) train people like the auto workers in general skills in case the needs of employers change?
3) educate their members about budgeting and priorities?
It’s enlightening that all these people feel so hopeless, when millions are risking life and jail time to sneak into the US to clean offices and replace roofing.
Great point about the Unions!
How utterly depressing. This is how he inspires people to vote for him? What will he do about the rheumatoid arthritis? How is Obama going to heal them?
They are getting old and dying. That’s called life.
They raised 6 children.
They have a nice home.
He has to work? Everyone has to work. That’s called life too.
Is Obama for real? What is his plan to heal these people? Why don’t their 6 children help them out? Or are they all suffering in this hell hole Obama calls America too?
Sheesh. What a downer! He’s trying to depress the whole nation! Why didn’t he just call this, “Meet the De-Pressed”?
LOL! Just watched their video. Obama HATES this country!
This mother who is molding her kids to become what? WHINERS?
She remembers a time when she didn’t have to worry about money. Maybe before she had 4 kids? Her husband couldn’t have his operation because they didn’t have money for it? Poor baby. He’s not dying. Why didn’t they apply for one of the thousands of 0% interest credit cards that have been falling in our mailboxes for the last 5 years.
There was a time in this country when families were PROUD to say their dad worked 2 and 3 jobs to put food on the table and send kids to college. We lived in homes with 6 kids and ONE bathroom. Oh the horror of it all!!! There was only ONE TV, 3 TV stations and ONE car. We rode PUBLIC BUSSES everywhere. The cat and dog slept outside and ate scraps. What have we become?
Obama! Save them Obama.
What a downer! If Obama wins they are going to have to give us all anti-depressants just to help us get over his constant doom and gloom. I believe that man might be clinically depressed. All he sees is lack and poverty around him. (Except for his Aunt. He doesn’t see her.)
I find that the conditions that are common in my rural hometown are below the minimal standards of existence for the suburbanites around me now. You nailed it.
If Obama manages to win the election on the votes of these selfish spoiled Americans, there will be Hell to pay if he doesn't deliver, and he won't.
If anyone here wishes to know anything about my parents, I’ll be happy to respond.
I wasn’t going to respond here, but my parents ask me to.
My parents are Lawrence and Juanita Stuart.
