MU students voted more than once, survey finds Freshman says he did it to draw attention to 'screwed up' system By LINDA SPICE and JESSE GARZA of the Journal Sentinel staff

A Marquette University freshman who said he was one of 174 students who told a campus newspaper they cast multiple presidential ballots said he doesn't fear prosecution if it highlights the holes he found in the political system. "I wanted to make the point that the system is screwed up here," said the student, 18, who asked not to be named. "I hope people can recognize the system is flawed, and if a poor college kid with no resources can manipulate the system, a person with an agenda and who wants to get things done - think how easily they can manipulate the system."

The Marquette Tribune, the university's student newspaper, surveyed 1,000 students and found 174 admitted voting more than once, said Michael McGraw, the Tribune's metro news desk editor.

Here are the ways you can vote more than once and become a felon who might get prosecuted: 1. as a student vote absentee in your home state and register in the state where you are going to school and vote there - there apparently is no national database for election officials to check if you have voted in a different state 2. go to different precincts in your own state and register under your own name but present some fake address ID such as a doctored up phone bill scanned into the computer with a different address on it - you can vote in each precinct and the judges do not have a list of those who have voted in other precincts 3. before the election establish an address with a friend on a campus in a different state - just have one bill you pay with that as the address and take that with you to register and most of the time you get to vote in that precinct 4. there are 15 other ways to get to vote more than once and the odds of you getting caught because of the way the system is designed by those who want you to be able to cheat for their candidate are near zero

How to fix this system: 1. establish a national online database of those who have registered along with scanned copies of the ID they have presented and provides this to the judges at all polling places so they can check voters against the national database 2. students may NOT register in the precinct they are living in during school but must vote only absentee and in the state where they have a legal address and have a system setup to establish that the person has only one legal address they are using 3. Use state photo ids - make them free - when you go to register your photo is taken, your ss# is taken and these go into a national database put online for the judges

any other ideas how to stop this fraud??

Knew about the students voting absentee in their home state and in person where they go to college. The other I never thought about.

Time to end all the early voting, absentee voting without a reason, and establish a national database of voters. Aristole already has one for campaigns to buy.

And, let’s cross-check obituaries against voter rolls. A friend of mine died in August 2007, and is still shown on the county voter rolls as an active voter. Wonder if anyone requested an absentee ballot for him?

No more early voting. Very limited absentee voting (like the troops). Purple fingers on election day for everyone else.

And to think a bottle of ink would fix it, save the issue of mail-in ballots but that could be worked on.

A high level Disney exec gleefully told me during 2004 how her brother voted in numberous states as he took a road trip across the country.

Yes. As in your #1, require every American to re-register to vote before the 2010 election. Require a birth certificate (or naturalization papers), proof of residence and a photo ID.

I’m thinking of not shaving from now through 11-5, voting at 7:00 am here in California, dressing in a creative way, flying to Cleveland, and voting multiple times using multiple names and multiple park benches as my address. I’m hard pressed to see how that particular fraud could be detected.

Marquette is where in either 2004 or 2000 students were bragging of multiple votes as well.

"And to think a bottle of ink would fix it, save the issue of mail-in ballots but that could be worked on."

I voted absentee in Virginia due to disability. That said, it IS a "mail-in" ballot. However, the system in my county seems very good. [NOTE: I don't know if it is stste-wide]. I first have to request a absentee form and it has my (long held) voter registration number and it requires all personal information including birth date, SSI number etc before I ever get a ballot. Then, when I get the ballot, both the inner and outer envelope have my address and voter registration number on the outside under my name. It seems pretty secure.

BTW, I asked my registrar about the double voting concerns and she told me that any college student that registers to vote in the county/precinct here in Virginia as a Virginian, a card is then sent to their registrar at their hometown to state that they are registered here and should not be granted an absentee ballot. Sounded good to me, but who know what a registrar in another state would do with that card and info?

I don’t know, but in my county we have gone to 100% vote by mail. It seems to be working quite well as it is easy to see which voters are connected to which address. Easy to spot fraud.

I’m in favor of 2 maybe 3 days of voting, but that is ALL.
Also, a deadline of Sept. 1 (or sooner) for new voter registration. Jeez, how many days pass between elections?
Talk about procrasination!(Are people such frigging procrastinators that they cannot seem to register until the day they are supposed to vote?)

Then all new registrations must be checked against a national database.

I think THIS was one of W’s biggest f-ups, not securing the voting system in this country and allowing the “election cluster” we are now witnessing.

How do they know how many ballots are “lost” by rabid Obama postal personnel?

Easiest solution is to take a thumb scan when you register to vote. When you go to vote you scan your thumb to prove who you are. It also flags you as having voted, and will not allow you to vote till the ext election.

This really isn’t new in Wisconsin and I imagine that college students are doing this as well as party aparachiks across the nation.

And a notarized essay/thesis on why capitalism is morally superior to other systems both applied and theoretic, and why a constitutional republic is superior to and different from a democracy.

You fail *either* of those, you go sit at home watching your TiVo'd Dancing with the Stars show while the Americans vote.
