Rendell says Murtha's 'racist' comment was mistake
AP via WIlkes Barre Times-Leader ^ | October 29, 2008

Gov. Ed Rendell came to the defense of Rep. John Murtha on Wednesday by saying the veteran congressman was fatigued from campaigning when he called his western Pennsylvania district "racist"...

"Did Jack make a mistake? Sure he did, but it's what you do that counts," Rendell said at their joint appearance Wednesday at a rally at a union hall in Uniontown....

Murtha is facing a stiffer-than-anticipated re-election race against Republican William Russell, a retired Army lieutenant colonel....

The National Republican Congressional Committee is planning a television commercial based on the "racist" remark and on Murtha's past remarks about U.S. Marines killing innocent civilians in Iraq in "cold blood."

We all know what Rendell was thinking here:

Forgive Murtha. It was a mistake that he SAID IT.

Not that “he doesn’t think that” just “he made the mistake of letting it slip”.

Idiot.

It clearly was a mistake for him to reveal his idiotic opinions of the voters in public. Now, let’s see if he’s right and he gets re-elected or if he’s wrong and has to get a real job.

Fast Eddie was telling the truth for a change. Murtha was fatigued and, therefore, had let his guard down and spoke his mind. When I’m tired I don’t say things contrary to my beliefs. If I were putting on a act I might forget what I was supposed to be saying and accidentally speak the truth

I think the opening to last weekend’s Saturday Night Live had Murtha down. It was really funny. Check it out on the NBC website (or Hulu). They had him starting out trying to explain he didn’t mean racist, maybe redneck, or just ignorant and stupid. He kept coming back in and finished with “I just want to say one more thing. You ever see the movie Deliverance?”

Yep, Fat Jack is tired all right and he's getting so tired he can't remember all the lies he's told over the years.

It looks like many of the people in the district are starting to realize it and Rendell isn't going to save him.

Bill Russell for Congress

Dump Murtha, PA 12th District

I’m glad he cleared that up. So when democrats say Republicans say something that they think is racist, Republicans can say it was a mistake because of the stress of compaigning?
