Oh likely the "plot", by *two* hyped up meth heads, was real enough, but the timing, and the mere fact, of it's unsealing was controled by BATFE.

Lets just say they have a vested interest in a candidate who would pass more federal gun control, and shield current laws from the fallout from the Heller decision.

Undecideds are already breaking 2:1 for McCain in the IBD/TIPP poll. I think this story would hurt Obama with undecideds, maybe even more than the redistribution tape would. By the way, just today there have been over 1 million views of that interview on youtube, so I don’t think its going anywhere but up.

But officials could not describe how advanced or credible the plot was, nor could they say if they had contacted the Obama campaign.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office for the ATF, said the suspects also sought to go on a national killing spree, with Obama as its final target.

"They said that would be their last, final act -- that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama," Cavanaugh said. "They didn't believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying."

According to the affidavit, the suspects planned "to drive their vehicle as fast as they could toward Obama shooting at him from the windows."

The court document states that the suspects planned to dress in all-white tuxedos and top hats during the assassination attempt, and that they stated they were willing to die during this attempt.

This sounds like a joke. Probably a couple of guys who got drunk and met one another on the Internet exchanging fantasies. Top hats and white tuxedos? Knew that they probably wouldn't be successful? Give me a break.

The BATFE didn't "break up the plot", nor even discover it. They were responding to information from the local sheriff's office. Guy had a shotgun cut down to a 16" barrel, 2" less than the max allowed with a special permit. That's why they were called in, the genetic defectives were (allegedly) violating the National Firearms Act.
