Spreading the wealth around
vanity | 10/26/08

I wish I could take credit for this, but here's a true story I got from a friend of mine about a recent 'social' experiment he conducted. I think my friends at FR will enjoy.

TOPICS: Political Humor/Cartoons
KEYWORDS: socialism; spread; taxes; wealth
Yesterday on my way to lunch at Doe's, I passed one of the homeless guys in that area, with a sign that read: "Vote Obama, I need the money."

Once inside Doe's, my waiter had on a "Obama 08" tee shirt. When the bill came, I decided not to tip the waiter and explained to him that, while he had given me exceptional service, his tee shirt made me feel he obviously believes in Sen. Obama's plan to redistribute the wealth. I told him I was going to redistribute his tip to someone that I deemed more in need - the homeless guy outside. He stared at me in disbelief and angrily stormed away. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $3 and told him to thank the waiter inside, as I had decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy looked at me in disbelief but seemed grateful.

As I got in my truck, I realized this rather unscientific redistribution experiment had left the homeless guy quite happy for the money that he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn. Well, I guess this redistribution of wealth is going to take a while to catch on with those doing the work.

I have got this story in the emails from a couple of friends and it makes the point.
Another little analogy would be to have Joe Biden donate some of his plugs to Joe the Plumber. The result...neither would have great hair but both would have some at least...

I love it!

Maybe, just maybe it made the waiter think.

If I owned Doe's ( first rule in business , I wouldn't let him wear any Political shirt period, nor talk about politics or religion or he would be fired.

Second rule would be I was downsizing if Obama won and would hire only temporary employees as subs his pay would go up and my employee cost would be protected.

This is good, but it’s a widespread email. Your friend probably forwarded it to you.

(The other version had the guy giving the homeless person $10.)

Great experiment. Now when McCain bails out delinquent home owners with your tax dollars will you demand he also adjust your mortgage rate? I will. I pay my mortgage on time which disqualifies me for a McCain mortgage bailout. If the repubs are gonna jump on the socialist bandwagon why should I be a responsible citizen and honor the agreement I signed up for? Why can’t I abdicate my responsibilities and get tax payers to pay my mortgage? If we are now supporting socialist I want my bills paid too.

Sorry guys, my bad. I thought it was his original story. Guess he was just forwarding an email he got to me. I hadn’t heard it, and I’m sorry I assumed it was an original story. Trust no one...

There's another one going around. Father is concerned because his daughter came home for the weekend from college and said she was going to vote Obama. The father asked how her grades were going and she said great I have a 4.0. The father then asked how her room mate was doing with her grades. His daughter said the girl was going to too many parties and not doing her work and didn't think she was going to make it through the year. So the father said well why don't you give a point off every grade you got and give them to your room mate. Then her D's would come up to a C and her C's would be a B. That way your room mate would have a chance too. The daughter said. Why should I give her my grade points? I earned the points by working hard and she didn't. Father said. “Welcome to the Republican Party.

I saw a Halloween cartoon a few days ago...

Several kids in costumes stand outside somebody's house, receiving candy.

As the grown-up gives candy to the kids he says: "I will take some of this candy away from you kids who worked hard, who walked through the neighborhood, and knocked on doors. Instead, I will give this candy to the kids who were lazy and stayed home. And then one of the children points at him and says: "A Democrat!"

It would be funny if it wasn't so true.

Yea, I hate socialistic ideals too. But as an adult that has to watch what I eat, I say give the kids all the candy they can choke down while they can. I was young once, myself. If anyone asked me what a calorie was, I’d have had to reach for the dictionary. Teach the kids socialism some other way and let them enjoy the holiday. Being personably charitable is a republican ideal now. Democrats donate less, expecting taxes to do what they’e unwilling to donate themselves. I get this idea if the news outlets were to poll halloween night porches, republicans would win the vote by kids in a landslide.
