A Pittsburgh police commander says a volunteer for the McCain campaign who reported being robbed and attacked near a bank ATM in Bloomfield has confessed to making up the story. Police say charges will be filed. More details to follow.

If she’s a fake, bet she’s also an Obama plant. Perhaps her black (she said the perp was a black man) boyfriend, and fellow Obama supporter, actually acted as her attacker -even going soo far as to cut her up (sacrifice her “looks” to “The One”) with a backwards “B” (the ebonics version?) for “ ‘Bama “ or “Barack”.

Yes, and got blasted pretty good for urging caution last night.

My first thought was I hoped that Drudge was not wrong, meaning that his headline of this incident was accurate and it took place as reported. I felt sorry for the victim, but I did not want this to be a false report.
I was willing to give the "victim" the benefit of the doubt initial, but it was pretty obvious once the details were released that much of her account of the attack were fairly easily refuted.

The idiot must have been looking in the mirror and that was why it was backwards!

I wouldn't fault any FReeper for believing this story to be true, and would certainly not call a fellow FReeper a "sucker". --
Why not? There are gullible people in every crowd. When they fall for a story, it's called being a sucker. There's nothing untrue about making the observation. I've been suckered a few times myself, but I'm getting better at avoiding leaps to conclusion.

What? You mean it wasn't an invisible, dyslexic, 200 pound 6'4" left handed black robber with a penchant for politics (so strong that he would risk getting caught mutilating his "victim" rather than robbing and running); carrying a dull knife along with a veritable surgeon's skill, capable of not actually cutting more than the surface level of skin on a writhing victim?;)

“Oh please! How is this any worse then the nut jobs shouting Kill him at ther McCain rally? No way anyone but a moon bat will believe McCain responsible for this idiots actions and the nut jobs are lost causes anyway.”
I can’t believe you DON’T get this. This lie is no worse than the other. It’s all about how the MSM will present it to the people. Somehow this will become John McCain’s personal responsibility just like the Frank/Dodd/Clinton mortgage meltdown is Bush’s.

Skepticism is good. Skepticism stated as fact absent evidence is still stupid.

All you doom-sayers, please calm down. This will not cost McCain the election. The media IS going to go overboard with their defense of Obama (as usual) and the silent millions in this country who are sick and tired of the race-hustling will respond negatively...

"
There really isnt much an emergency room could do for a superficial scratch like that, other than dab on Povidone (which I would do for myself) and ask if Tetanus booster was up to date."
I'm not sure if that is simply a casual statement of fact or if it was intended as a possible reason why she didn't seek medical treatment.
If the former, I agree with you completely. If the latter, the girl I saw in the press doesn't look qualified to make ER triage decisions. If someone knocked me down, stole my money and cut on my face, the very first place I would go is an ER. Well, I may stop for a beer first but it would be no lower than second on my list. :-)

She must work for the Obama campaign.
That’s what I believe. This is not the behavior of a Republican, this is the kind of thing Democrats do. I believe she was a Democrat mole working as a Republican volunteer, and she did this knowing it would be discovered to be a hoax hoping it would reflect badly on Republicans.
