PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.
Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.
Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.
The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.
RE: “The article said that the victim refused medical treatment. I wonder why?”

She appears young — she may not have wanted to go the hospital route and figured she could just deal with the black eye(s) and cut cheek herself, at least for the moment. That “B” on her right cheek doesn’t appear very deep — more like a really bad scratch. Doesn’t appear she was actually stabbed/carved up.
Just heard she is from Texas so need more info on that, too.
It’s all hideous, and I doubt the young woman did this to herself. Hopefully she is OK and we find out soon who did this, and if the “B” really stands for Barak.
Nice ad hominem. Try to address the points I made, if you disagree with them. Otherwise, you may simply join the rest of the herd in stampeding toward a very reckless conclusion that will likely make you all look very foolish in the end.
To answer your question, no, I’m not a medical doctor. But I have worked in a high school guidance counseling office and have borne witness to a lot of adolescent/young adult auto-mutilation.
Thanks for the link. In an area like that you’d think there’d be other cameras that could pick up the alleged perp.
Ok, I just saw the picture of the victim.
I think it’s very unlikely it’s a setup.
Most women I know would not take kindly to getting a black eye.
1) She could be lying about the attack.
2) She might not have any insurance.
3) She might want to see her own doc, if she has one locally, or a specialist to make sure there's no scarring.
She really ought to have it looked at.
Right. Well, you go ahead and indulge your little fantasy, if it makes you feel better for not being able to address the points. You will believe what you wish, regardless.
Well, maybe since you’re a plastic surgeon, some of the more easily exited will slow down and ponder this as well. I think you’re spot on. This doesn’t add up.
Put someone in a chokehold from behind with your left hand and write a B on their face. It will be backward if you write on the person’s face like you would a piece of paper.
If she was trying to fake this and messed up with a backward B, she probably would have said, Oh crap. I did it backwards and not proceeded. Also, the fact that she used B and not O also makes me think this is legit. Someone this politically minded would have used O, not B.
The Twitter entries of her looking for an ATM also help her case. I can’t imagine if you were going to pull of a hoax like this that you would think to post that you are looking for an ATM
Would you like someone to administer a psychological exam for this woman. I suppose you are implying this a 2008 Susan Smith. I wouldn’t give myself a black eye and a scratch for publicity/attention.
I'll go with the pros, the ones who have actually been involved in litigation following the use of deadly force for self defense, for advice on this one. Thanks for your opinion, just the same.
Look, I really think Obama would be a disaster. I think Obama supporters are rude. There have already been documented attacks on Republicans by deranged Obamabots (most recently in NYC- witnessed).
BUT this smells fishy.
“Most women I know would not take kindly to getting a black eye.”
I agree, but this doesn’t look like a black eye, unless you mean makeup. Read my previous posts, I’m a surgeon who treats facial trauma.
This looks like a self inflicted deal and I will watch in horror as the whole story unravels.
I’d be as much concerned about the black eye(s) and other bruises from the attack as the deep scratch on the cheek. It would be nice to know how that will heal, however.
She may need a tetanus shot and certainly to have the “B” treated to curb infection.
I just had to go to ER recently on a Friday night after tripping on a badly cracked city sidewalk. Did NOT want to go but major pain and needed stitches on one knee. Had a baseball sized bump below knee as well. Very painful and I was a mess for three weeks.
Upshot: $2,500 OUT OF POCKET expenses after my pathetic insurance paid it’s little bit. So...anyone who avoids the ER is probably smart unless they are indigent. Then, go for it — it’s all freeeeee!!!!
I had to go to ER that night as doctor’s offices not open Friday night — and I was told by my doc on the phone that if I did not get stitches (assuming I needed them) within a few hours, I could NOT get them at all after waiting. Apparently once the healing process starts (which is pretty quick) it’s inviting trouble to try to do stitching.
Even though this was expensive, I’m glad I went. Had I had a scratch on face and a black eye and felt basically OK otherwise, I probably would’ve waited for doc’s office hours to be seen.
Maybe it is makeup. That doesn’t mean she wasn’t attacked.
There are different degrees of being attacked. Maybe he wasn’t trying to brutalize her. Maybe he just wanted to scare her.
It’s not the only way. Put someone in a chokehold from behind with your left hand and write a B on their face. It will be backward if you write on the person’s face like you would a piece of paper.
If she was trying to fake this and messed up with a backward B, she probably would have said, Oh crap. I did it backwards. Also, the fact that she used B and not O also makes me think this is legit. Someone this politically minded would have used O, not B.
Her Twitter entry about looking for an ATM helps her case as well.
I agree that we should be cautious but I also think we can give her the benefit of the doubt.
Fair enough....
BTW....that wasn't a "ad hominem"...fwiw-
I asked you a question. When asking simple questions...is labeled "ad hominem" attacks....then I guess we will have a Obama presidency.
No, you're wrong. You shoot to NEUTRALIZE.
I guess we’ll see.
It would be kinda like that muslim chick who beat herself up in the basement of some building at her college and then blamed a mysterious white guy. Whose going to doubt that a white guy did this evil act, right?
Well let’s say it’s fake. She’s a nut, but there are other nuts who are targeting people that is reality.
I hear you. It makes sense what you are saying. I wish everyone would sit tight and let the police finish their investigation before making hay out of this.
