Jindal Makes a Political Power Play
Washington Post ^ | 10/22/08 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 10/22/2008 4:19:01 PM PDT by Dawnsblood

On its face, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's decision to appear in an ad endorsing state Treasurer John Kennedy in his challenge to Sen. Mary Landrieu isn't that big a surprise.

After all, Jindal is the Republican governor of the state and Kennedy is his party's Senate nominee.

But, those familiar with Jindal's career -- marked almost entirely by a desire to avoid the appearance of partisanship -- see the endorsement as a sign of Jindal's long term ambitions, ambitions that could include a White House bid down the line.

They point out that this is the first race Jindal has waded into since becoming governor in 2007 (he took a pass on endorsing in any of the primary runoffs that year), and that by aggressively vouching for Kennedy he is putting his popularity and reformer brand to the test in a highly visible way.

Jindal is, without question, seen as a rising star within the national GOP. He won the governor's office in 2007 without a runoff (a seemingly impossible feat for a Republican just a few years ago) and those familiar with Jindal's poll numbers insist he is among the most popular governors in the country -- with those thinking favorably outpacing those who regard him unfavorably by an eight to one margin. He also has gained attention for pushing a series of ethics reforms designed to clean up the notoriously dirty state government in the Bayou State.

One bright spot in an Obama win is Jindal in 2012.

Jindal tries to be bipartisan? I hope he isn’t another McCain. I know he is a strong conservative. But in today’s climate with the left being as dangerous as it is, we need fighters on our side.

Who says Jindal is even really conservative?

I’m sick of this whole celebrity contest with bipartisan-types winning our nominations.

If we want wishy-washy conservatism, we should move to Britain and vote for David Cameron’s “nice-guy” Tories.

Reagan was bi-partisan. But there’s a difference: he got the dems to vote for conservative policies. McCain gets himself to vote for democrat policies.

You have to understand Louisiana. Most people are democrats,,used to be essentially a one party state. It is amazing he won. And most white dems are pretty conservative.

I don’t think it’s surprising that Jindal didn’t endorse anyone during the primaries. Endorsing the Republican nominee is only natural.

If McCain wins he won’t run for re-election and that will give the nomination to Palin.

The down side to this is McCain won’t run for re-election and therefore won’t give a darn about who he pisses off.

Doesn’t want to appear partisan? Won’t endorse the most conservative candidates in primaries? Stay as Governor, I don’t want you on a national ticket.

I like Jindahl but many here are back to playing the color -gender game same as they did with:

Powell....betrayed us

Watts.......hasn’t made up his mind...’scuse me?

Rice......pro-abortion choice

and so forth

it would be nice to see conservatives act like conservatives and not pick identity based candidates which is precisely what the enemy lives by

hence:

Palin/whomever in 2012

better yet, Palin as queen for 25 years, Tom Delay can be her Walsingham, Haley Barbour Chancellor and Jeff Sessions as Wolsley

Jim Demint and Cantor as vice Chancellors

Duncan Hunter as War Minister

Fred Thompson as spokesman of the realm

Parliament disbanded, after the requisite purges

one can dream...

Jindal will have to wait. Obama's not winning.

Jindal’s attraction is not the race factor, it is his competence and his ability to wring reforms out of a LA Legislature that is largely Democrat.

Joe Kennedy is a Ex Democrat, and the Landrieu’s are LA political royalty, she welched on her pledge to support Conservative Supreme Court judges though.
