Carly, The Super-Chip in McCain Campaign
(What You See, Is What You Get)

She swilled vodka and visited strip joints to break the glass ceiling, but can businesswoman Carly Fiorina tough it out in politics, asks Nick Mathiason. Poised, smart and ready to serve, Carly Fiorina - at one time the most powerful female executive on the planet - scents power. There's still a chance that the most intense, volatile and bitter presidential election campaign in living memory could spring a stunning final twist, delivering the Republicans to victory. If John McCain triumphs, Fiorina will follow in his slipstream. As a close friend and economic adviser to the Republican candidate, it is a sure bet that the first and only woman to run a Fortune top 20 company will be catapulted into office. 'We'll see,' the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard said last Friday at her Washington home. 'We never expect anything.' With Fiorina, though, expectations are generally pretty high. The daughter of a law school professor from Austin, Texas, she is a fiercely ambitious corporate ball breaker.

You must have worked at HP.

She gets a lot of crap for her tenure at HP, but people forget two things: she did one hell of a job at Lucent, and all the things she did at HP didn't pay off in time for her, but they're sure paying off for her successor now. HP's workstation and server profits sucked when she arrived, and now the Proliant line is a best seller. That's her doing. She's the one who pushed the Compaq merger, even when the son of the one of the founders was screaming bloody murder about it. Her only real failure at HP was the services sector. She just couldn't beat IBM.

I dont know what she did to HP but I worked at Lucent. Lucent no longer exists so that should tell McCain something. I retired from the ORIGINAL AT&T and worked with Lucent installer almost on a daily basis. Those poor guys watched their company go down hill fast. Fortunately most of them were pension eligible.

Reuters, October 2, 2008:
"Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Thursday listed investor Warren Buffett and former eBay chief Meg Whitman as potential Treasury secretaries in his administration but declined to say if he would consider asking current Secretary Henry Paulson to stay. "

You must have worked at HP. Nope. I'm just familiar with her record and how she destroyed two companies. She is a decent marketer of herself, but that's about all I can say good about her.

Say it, sister! The sooner they lock this broad away the better off will be the GOP and the world. She was a disaster and is widely and justly hated all over the techieverse from coast to coast. So far we've been lucky the Obamanauts are so blinded by hatred of normal Americans that they haven't latched onto this biddy. If it would have been Hillary she would have beat Carly all around town like a rented mule. She would have beat her like a redheaded stepson. She would have beat her like a redheaded stepson riding a rented mule.
If you want a Girl Geek, get Whitman from E-Bay. She built, instead of destroying a company.

Other than the fact that this woman ran HP into the ground (before being booted), I suppose it might be a good idea...

Carly is a “has been”. She should remain a “has been”.

Buffett got rich through capitalism but seems to believe in socialism for everyone else. Someone above mentioned Secretary of State John Kerry for Obama. The same John Kerry who JM wanted to run with? Johnny also has mentioned Lieberman and Gore for cabinet positions. Whoever wins this election, we are all screwed.

Warren Buffett would be great, but given that he’s an Obama supporter I find it unlikely that he’d be on a McCain cabinet. As I mentioned in my post, Meg Whitman is not a very impressive choice.

Mmmm, yes. Portman. I know she’s a lefty, but it’s the rare time I don’t care. Appoint her anywhere.
Oh, dang. You mean Rob Portman.

BTW, when I first saw the term “Super-Chip” in the title, my first thought was “SARA” (no ‘h’). Anyone get the connection, or am I just weird?

Most of the telecom suppliers fell out of favor on Wall Street after Enron, Global Crossing, like tech fiascos, etc and have never recovered no matter if a strong conservative company with NO DEBT and a billion in the bank! In this market, they have; however, not taken the hit as much as other industries, but then they were so dangerously close to the bottom anyway. These honest tech companies that suffered under the so named above stock price collapse from no fault of their own and their Investors, never got BAILED OUT!!...like the government has been so quick to do now! The good guys have been spending years in restructuring, layoffs to be able to survive and compete globally.
To: supercat
Yes..I hesitated on that as well. Duly noted: I always use an "h" when I should not and eliminate as well.
To: fight_truth_decay
What on earth does McCain see in this incompetent loudmouth? If she had a penis, she would have been drummed out of HP a year earlier, and never heard from again. “Glass ceiling” my ass. More like teflon armor.

I am glad she is capable of running businesses, however, unless she is socially and fiscally conservative and is strong on military and defense issues, in other words a real conservative, I DO NOT WANT HER ANYWHERE IN A LEADERSHIP POSITION IN THE GOP.
No More RINOs Period!
