McCain calls Joe the Plumber, invites him on the trail

MELBOURNE, Florida (CNN)- At a rally in Melbourne, Florida Friday evening, Senator McCain revealed he had called Joe Wurzelbacher.

“I talked to him this morning for the first time ever,” said McCain. “And I want to tell you his sprits are good and he’s a tough guy. He is what small business people all over this country are all about. They are tough and they are good and they want to get ahead and they want to keep their money.” McCain did apologize to the Ohio resident for thrusting him into the media spotlight on the night of the debate according to McCain press secretary Brooke Buchanan.

The night before he called, he appealed to Joe on CBS's “Late Night with David Letterman.” “Joe, if you’re watching, I’m sorry,” he said into the camera.

Buchanan did say that the Arizona Senator invited Ohio’s most famous voter to meet up with the campaign but did not set up any specific stops.

McCain has a rally in that state on Sunday but Buchanan said she didn’t know whether Murzelbacher would appear.

When asked why he called Joe, Buchanan said, “I think he just wanted to reach out to him.”

Whether Joe is there in person or not, he is certainly a star at McCain events. McCain urged others at the rally to contact Joe and share their support. “Send Joe an email and tell him you are with him, ok,” said McCain.

And the crowd definitely seemed to be full of Joe supporters as well as John supporters, with people at the Melbourne rally were wearing tee shirts with a picture of a name tag on them that said, “My name is … Joe the Plumber” and holding signs about Joe like one on stage that said, “Joe’s dough, not Obama’s.”

And the half white/half black presidential candidate chooses to call himself black. Where’s the outrage over that?

Actually, this is an Alinsky tactic that works in McCain's favor. The reaction (the left's rampage against Joe) is even more powerful that the first action (the bringing up of Joe by McCain.) The attempted personal destruction of Joe will not sit well with the sheeple, if McCain plays it to the max.

I would say it is time for McCain and Palin to stress this on the campaign trail. 0bama and his flunkies are not averse to threatening and harassing opponents. McCain the other night talked about the threat to democracy posed by voting irregularities. Just imagine the threat to speech and dissent caused by these thugs.

BUT then didn’t McCain undercut his own argument saying we do not need to fear an 0bama presidency?! He should not have made that statement.

I’ve been frustrated with the left for a long time -— no matter the topic -— oil, taxes, etc. -— they’re against it.

A few days ago I found the very first, honest liberal. She had a bumper sticker on car that read:

Economic Growth = Environmental Destruction

The first one of these lunatics that comes straight to the point. They want higher taxes, less oil, or whatever it takes to make life poorer and more difficult as long as there deity is honored -— mother erf.

I watched Hannity and Colmes last night and the Dems are trying to put this one under the rug. They want this thing to go away. The Obama camp knows Obama made a huge mistake with his soundbite to Joe about spreading the weatlh and they also know he made a huge mistake by mocking Joe at the rally 2 days ago. Campaign needs to continue to put Joe in the spotlight.

This will be one of the defining moments of the campaign. Hold on to your hat because there will be a few more these next few weeks.

I was at that campaign event in Brevard County yesterday, and when Joe the Plumbers’ name was mentioned, the crowd went into a frenzy.....JoeTP is a big hit with the rank-and-file, and he has captured the imagination of many throughout the nation.

All of these attacks on Joe the Plumber are designed to change the subject from the fact that Joe the Plumber tricked Obama into revealing what he really wants to do: “spread the wealth around.”

I’ve seen this sort of thing happen locally here in York, PA. There is a cadre of politicians who run the city. Everyone who opposes them finds his life story in the local paper, with the most unsavory parts emphasized and distorted.

We formed a taxpayer committee to protest a proposed 40 per cent increase in property taxes. A city council woman, who is a member of the cadre, sent an email to the the city treasurer inquiring about any member or associate of the taxpayer group who was behind in paying any taxes. Their names were published in the local newspapers. All of this was designed to change the subject from whether a tax increase was necessary to whether our group had any moral authority to oppose them.

The only saving factor was that the city treasurer was not a member of the cadre, in fact, he despised them. He leaked a copy of the email to a member of the taxpayer group, who gave it to me. I gave it to a reporter, who published it in the morning paper. (And the tax increase was reduced to a still outrageous 17?)

That member of the group successfully ran for city council. The resulting attacks on her, and published revelations about her family finances almost destroyed her life.

When someone ran for mayor against this cadre, his past financial difficulties were published in the newspapers.

I ran unsuccessfully (barely) for city controller. I escaped this because I went on the attack immediately against the unsavory aspects of the cadre members, and I’ve been squeeky clean for most of my life (at least since the 1960’s) and I’ve held volunteer offices in several local charities. I also successfully provoked the city council woman who leads the cadre into threatening me in front of two reporters.

All of the members of the cadre have had many past indiscretions, including owing back taxes, and going through bankruptcies. A city council woman, the leader of the cadre often gets opposition candidates thrown off the ballot on technicalities (sound familiar?), but these don’t seem to matter to the idiot voters in this city.

So, Joe the plumber is facing what all amateurs face when entering the political arena. We have no idea of the depths to which the pros will sink to maintain their power.

Your response is nonsense, and addresses nothing I said specifically.

How many presidential campaigns have you managed?

You might be right in a normal election cycle. But with the amount of calculated voter fraud that is happening it may be impossible for McCain to win.

... the very helpful Joe the Plumber story will be turned into a joke and a characature by Obama’s MSM allies, as the have been working to do for several days already.

And in doing so, the media and Dem elites reveals their contempt for average Americans. That won't sit well with regular folks.

Take away his monitor...and Obama becomes one big sc***up. Again and again and again.

I now believe that is why he wrote books first...a hardback monitor, if you will.

Then he went to Oprah...where Michelle was obviously given a makeover and Obama could have a "rehearsed" agenda.

Oh, so clever he is...

A man who won a Senate Seat...."Unopposed". Imagine that.

A man who voted "present" 45% of the time. A man who says he will defer to Biden on foreign affairs, to "what's his name" on monetary affairs.

Not just a man who is not prepared but who can't decide between "yes" and No" on Senate matters.

Alan Colmes said last night that John McCain was stupid for not VETTING Joe the Plummer. Thankfully one of the guys on the panel told him why in the world would you vet a private citizen? What have we become, in order to ask a question or state and opinion we now have to be vetted?

the very helpful Joe the Plumber story will be turned into a joke and a characature by Obama’s MSM allies, as the have been working to do for several days already.

And that is the only reason Joe the plumber is still in the news, the media, and Obama and dems trying to discredit him. The problem with that is the media does not understand their trashing of people the Americans see being just like themselves, like Palin, how the American people have begun to look at the media instead. They realize the MSM is trashing the American people just like themselves and thus have are coming to the conclusion that they are getting trashed alongside Palin and Joe the plumber and they do not like it (thus the media is starting to actually see anger and hate toward themselves when in the past they have always been met like stars or with great respect).

Trashing Palin did not work she has massive crowds and the only thing I can see them accomplishing now with the trashing of Joe the plumber is hate toward the MSM and dems.

I very much agree you can overdo an issue or using an example, but right now all McCain is doing is defending some guy that was in the right place and right time to ask Obama a question that the media would not and try and keep the media and dems from destroying him. Because Joe the plumber did the job the media refuses to do.

All we need to do is make one commercial of Obama trashing Joe the plumber at his rallies and include what Joe actually asked Obama, like the one on utube and that would be the end of Obama's campaign, his tank moment. The media knows it and it has them terrified.

“OK, Willie. I’ll shut up and admire your brilliance in silence and awe.”:

Lol, still using evasive tactics to avoid responding to specific comments.

And you still didn’t tell me how many political campaigns you’ve managed. You asked that in your #76. And if you haven’t managed presidential campaigns, campaigns that aren’t nationwide wouldn’t really relate.

Amen to that! I am laughing so hard at this whole Joe the Plumber hysteria while realizing that of all the issues and nonissues in this campaign, Obama may be rejected, resoundingly, because of a lowly plumber. The fact that Obama and Biden are now campaigning against Joe shows just how shallow they are. It truly is a gift from God.
