MELBOURNE, Florida (CNN)- At a rally in Melbourne, Florida Friday evening, Senator McCain revealed he had called Joe Wurzelbacher.
I talked to him this morning for the first time ever, said McCain. And I want to tell you his sprits are good and hes a tough guy. He is what small business people all over this country are all about. They are tough and they are good and they want to get ahead and they want to keep their money. McCain did apologize to the Ohio resident for thrusting him into the media spotlight on the night of the debate according to McCain press secretary Brooke Buchanan.
The night before he called, he appealed to Joe on CBS's Late Night with David Letterman. Joe, if youre watching, Im sorry, he said into the camera.
Buchanan did say that the Arizona Senator invited Ohios most famous voter to meet up with the campaign but did not set up any specific stops.
McCain has a rally in that state on Sunday but Buchanan said she didnt know whether Murzelbacher would appear.
When asked why he called Joe, Buchanan said, I think he just wanted to reach out to him.
Whether Joe is there in person or not, he is certainly a star at McCain events. McCain urged others at the rally to contact Joe and share their support. Send Joe an email and tell him you are with him, ok, said McCain.
And the crowd definitely seemed to be full of Joe supporters as well as John supporters, with people at the Melbourne rally were wearing tee shirts with a picture of a name tag on them that said, My name is
Joe the Plumber and holding signs about Joe like one on stage that said, Joes dough, not Obamas.

Your comment provided me with insight as to just WHY the Dems and MEDIA have engaged in this destruction of JTP... they want to establish that he does not have the MORAL AUTHORITY to ask the question he asked the BIG ZERO. This is truly scary.
According to the Left, you have to be flawless to have an opinion, to matter, to exist, to live. Except, of course, if you're of the Left - then having no moral compass at all is integral to your identity.
Gotta tell you, Will, after reading your posts on this thread I'm of the opinion that if you're against this action it is almost certainly a good thing for McCain. You're becoming a bit of a barometer for me. Thanks.

Lol, what a nothing comment. Care to provide some specifics? I’ll be happy to respond to any specifics you might have to back up your statement, IF you can provide any.
I’ve already got a plunger on display in front of my house.
Sad.
I often think of the Palin family in this context. Yes, Sarah is a politician, but barely by Washington standards. She’s got to be completely amazed at the depths her opponents sink to.
That is exactly right, and oh, how I have been thanking GOD for this intervention, I believe this with all my heart. I believe that many good American patriots are pleading with GOD not to let Obama be elected. I truly see that hand of GOD in this.
Joe will be on Huckabee this week.
He is great in giving interviews so far.
Sorry if this is a dupe, I’ve posted it a few times that I saw a Rat on TV last night saying they were committed to “tax CUTS for small business.”
That lie is in direct response to the fear they feel about Joe the Plumber’s truth-detector.
Also saw an Obama commercial (new) with him with construction workers, etc., saying “I will fight for you”-—which, of course, is McCain’s most famous line from his stump speech.
These cretins are scared out of their wits about Joe the Plumber. So bring him on!
I agree with you on Joe the Plumber being a gift for McCain.
What I’m impressed with is that McCain was smart enough to latch onto Joe the Plumber. Mac has been such a bad candidate here the last month, I was concerned he’d let Obama’s Freudian slip about spreading the wealth go unnoticed.
This could be our “Dukakis riding in the Tank” moment.
I really like that McCain called Joe a “tough guy.”
Nice.
Kinda of a Maxine WATERS moment, when she slipped up and said “Socialist” during the oil companies hearings, that government may need to take of the oil companies.
I stand corrected!
Thanks for setting the record straight. Don’t want to miss Joe.
Isn’t it amazing that whenever the Rats “slip up” out comes some bare-naked Socialist/Marxist dangerous drivel?
Plunge the Marxist!
God Bless America..
Joe the Plumber is an American folk hero! He so beautifully exposed the ONE for what he really thinks. Sorry Joe, you are not a “flash in the pan.” I can see historians delightfully studying Joe’s effect and importance on this election, in the future.
Personally I hope Joe runs for office.
Go Joe! Thanks for taking the hits and thanks for speaking out!
I think the Obamunists will come after FreeRepublic any way it can, and I’m 100% certain that Joe the Plumber will be audited.....like Bill O’Reilly in the 1990’s probably more than once.
The Obamunists are political brown shirts, so I expect a great deal of political bullying if the messiah is able to insinuate himself into the Oval Office.
I stood on the corner on Wickham Road in Melbourne this morning with a McCain sign and a sign hand painted that said Fight for America. Two people holding McCain signs had Joe the Plumber T Shirts. I suggested that they go buy a couple of plungers and wave while wearing a Joe the Plumber Tee shirt.
Something is happening out there and you only have to look at the panicked response of the Obamunist mainstream media and the Obamunist camp to see that they are petrified that this workingman with a plunger is going to plunge the Obamunist messiah circling the commode.
Good news!!
Yes, the Rats are very afraid. Of the truth.
I agree. I think Joe the Plumber will always be part of the history of this election. I think “Joe the Plumber” may even pass into the permanent lexicon of American idioms.
