Joe the Plumber target of Arizona (his Drivers License is suspended)

Joe the Plumber's' AZ driver license suspended Comments 6 | Recommend 4 Daniel Newhauser, For the Tribune

A plumbing license is not the only license "Joe the Plumber" is having troubles with.

The former Mesa resident has a suspended driver's license and outstanding court fines in Arizona, according to Mesa Municipal Court records.

"Joe," whose real name is Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, was referred to more than 20 times by Republican Sen. John McCain in Wednesday night's presidential debate for questioning Democratic Sen. Barack Obama's tax policy.

The man portrayed by McCain to be the typical, hardworking American revealed this week that he actually does not have a plumbing license, and now court records show he should not have a driver's license either, making it potentially even harder for him to get to work.

Wurzelbacher, who lived in Mesa in 2000 and had an Arizona driver's license, had his driver's license suspended by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division on May 4, 2000, following a nonpayment of a court-imposed fine for civil traffic violations, according to court records.

America's new political icon, who owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes, according to public records, still owes more than $700 to the Mesa court system.

Records show he was cited for failure to stop at a red light and for failure to provide proof of insurance on Feb. 9, 2000, in a black Dodge truck at the intersection of Dobson and Baseline roads in Mesa.

After failing to pay his original fine of $627.50 issued in March 2000, his license was suspended and the fine was handed over to a collection agency along with a 16 percent surcharge. The now-resident of Holland, Ohio, still owes $727.90 to the Mesa Municipal Court, according to court records.

Nevertheless, Wurzelbacher's driver's license is still valid in Ohio, according to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and was renewed as recently as May 2005. Ohio law requires a license to be renewed every four years, meaning Wurzelbacher likely obtained an Ohio license in 2001, one year after having his Arizona license suspended.

With a suspended license in one state, it should not be possible to get a new license in another, said Cydney DeModica, spokeswoman for the Arizona MVD.

The only way "Joe the Plumber" could have slipped through the cracks is a clerical error in which his driving records were not entered into the Problem Driver Pointer System, the national database of information about people with a checkered driving past, said Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Lindsay Komlanc.

Komlanc added if the Ohio BMV were to receive the information, appropriate action could be taken, including suspension of his Ohio license.

I don’t have the skill set really although if I got people willing to send me videos of themselves saying I would try to put something together. I hope the McCain campaign is thinking up the same kind of strategy.

Attack Joe The plumber attack we the people.

Do you have the expertise to pull it off?

“...The Globe reported in January that in Somerville, where Obama lived while attending Harvard, the senator still owed the city $73 in excise taxes and $45 in late penalties for parking in a bus stop in 1990 and in a street-sweeping zone in 1991. Both of the tickets had been paid.

Tom Champion, a spokesman for the city of Somerville, said he called Obama’s office after receiving a query about the late fees from the Globe in late January.

By the next Monday, Jan. 29, he said, the penalties were paid.

“He had no idea he had outstanding charges,” Champion said. “The Globe, by raising the issue, called it to his attention, and then he paid them immediately.”

Obama is a weasel!

Speaking of terrorists...I got 4 emails with a quote from Obama’s book AUDACITY OF HOPE that claims Obama said in the book “if things get ugly I will side with the muslims.”

Now I don’t know if that quote is out of context or even real, as I do not have a copy of Audacity of Hope to check it...does anyone else know of that, or have gotten said emails??.

good for you

I know of three other couples who moved out of MA to NH because of the politics but they wanted to be near family

I’ve met many in Florida who moved from the north east because of the politics

imagine if 100,000 republicans moved out of MA the state of MA would be really screwed while a red state would become more red , get more money and they now live a better life

My family and I believe it was the best thing we ever did when I got them out of there.

It was a big move , lots of hesitation but we did it and never looked back

good luck in your future for the both of you
I guarantee that their liberal Utopia’s will be screwed, no money , soft on child molesters, loads of illegals, homo’s running around, high taxes, bad roads, etc etc

"$627.50??? For missing a red light and not having proof of insurance in the car? "

Not very good PR for Arizona. I might want to avoid that state if they treat their own citizens that way, assuming he lived there long enough to be classified as a citizen. How would they treat people that don't even live there?

Obama needs to be careful criticizing Joe the plumber for suspended license, for Obama was one wanting to give illegal aliens a drivers license...hmmmm

You said — “The Illinois Senator shelled out $375 in January _ two weeks before he officially launched his presidential campaign _ to finally pay for 15 outstanding parking tickets and their associated late fees.”

That’s what candidates do. They go through looking for all sorts of problems that can crop up later on and do “damage control” on them right away. So, Obama was doing just like any other candidate would do.

If it had not been for him running for the Presidential election, he would have left them there... LOL...

“All Joe did was ask a question...which he has every RIGHT to do in this country. It was OBAMA’s ANSWER that drew attention. Is this smearing suppose to somehow discredit him? THEY ARE SCARED...don’t sound too confident to me.”

Obama’s internals are crumbling. McCain won the last debate and Obama looked like a little boy jabbering long winded answers while McCain showed leadership.

Since the debate and the Plumber Joe thing, the polls are tightening and Obama knows its over. His stupid monologue at the Smith banquet last night had eyes rolling in pain. The guy behind Obama looked like he was squirming in his chair.

“mommy... the emperor is naked!” Its over for the O. He knows it McCain knows it too so he's playing it cool.

How convenient that he remembered right before his senate run. I guess those student loans that michelle speaks about prevented barry from coughing up 300 bucks.

McCain needs to make a big buy and have an ad starring Joe the Plumber. All he has to do is say: “All I did is ask a question, and they are trying to destroy my life. What do you think they’ll do to you if you ask a question?”

Good lordy, this is NOT about Joe himself! Joe unmasked Obama’s marxism. This about Obama’s comment of ‘spreading the wealth’ and how it will affect ALL small businesses. The media is focusing on the individual in order to draw attention away from the true point of the episode!!

Ummm..., I can tell you haven’t had any ticketing problems recently, have you??? LOL...

Or better yet, you haven’t see what happens to fines when you don’t pay them... that’s a double-LOL... :-)
