STATEMENT FROM MCCAIN-PALIN SPOKESWOMAN MEG STAPLETON

Friday, October 10, 2008

ARLINGTON, VA — McCain-Palin 2008 spokeswoman Meg Stapleton issued the following statement on today’s release of Stephen Branchflower’s report:

“Today’s report shows that the Governor acted within her proper and lawful authority in the reassignment of Walt Monegan. The report also illustrates what we’ve known all along: this was a partisan led inquiry run by Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern regarding Trooper Wooten given his violent and rogue behavior. Lacking evidence to support the original Monegan allegation, the Legislative Council seriously overreached, making a tortured argument to find fault without basis in law or fact. The Governor is looking forward to cooperating with the Personnel Board and continuing her conversation with the American people regarding the important issues facing the country.”

Of course McCain will not drop Palin.

But you can bet he is not going to talk about her much anymore in this campaign.

obviously the report was released as a friday night bombshell.

And to generate a headline, because most people have the attention span of a fruit fly. All that matters is that the phrase "Palin acted unethically" or words to that effect get read on the news at the top of the hour.

In that sense, the report was not a serious attempt at an inquiry, any more than the Tom DeLay indictment was a legitimate attempt to apprehend a criminal.

Actually, I haven’t got a clue what the heck’s going to happen. I just know that McCain’s the type who would throw a good woman like Sarah under the bus because of a story like this. Yes he knew, but he didn’t think it would get this far.

I personally believe this is all BS, but I also know how it’s going to play in the weekend cycle. I really don’t know whether to actually take markers on the $5, but it seems like a good bet to me.

Stupid pdf isn’t even searchable. They probably threw it on a copier and let it scan the pages to pdf images. Morons.

Come on, snap out of it. She is a political lightweight. She has nothing, NOTHING, in her past that makes her qualified to be VP or Prez. She has no real education. Her political experience is insignificant. She is unable to articulate a logical argument in support of a position. You are fooling yourselves to think that she deserves consideration for national political office.

As I said here on the day she was picked: Worst. Pick. Ever.

"How about running to win, and then stepping down before the EC vote? Then he gets to keep his Senate seat and we get a REAL HONEST reformer in the White House."

And I was beginning to think that I was the only one crazy enough to harbor such thoughts. But after thinking it out, I suspect that he'll go in and become #44, and bail in the middle of the third year.

She did not get him fired - he is still on the job. She fired the trooper’s boss for several reasons other than the fact he would not fire the trooper.

I agree that if a trooper is tasering a 10-year old stepson, treatening the family of the governor, he should not be working as a trooper. However, his boss would not fire him.

Why is this child abusing thug still on the force ?

The police union, I would guess.

I've read arguments that suggest that without police unions, the police would be too subject to pressure by mayors and politicians. I could imagine that politicization of the police force would be a problem, but unionizing the force just politicizes it under leadership that has no accountability to the public.

IMHO, government employees should be forbidden to unionize. If they want to join a union, they should seek employment elsewhere.

We have reports from people on the scene at 0bama rallies that awful things are shouted there as well; these don't make it to the press. We know somebody shouted something at a McCain/Palin event. Who? Nobody knows. What did he shout? Nobody knows. Some people say "terrorist" some people say "kill him!" Is there a difference, yes, but ...

Who knows who is doing the shouting?

You do know that the "Iron My Shirt" guys were plants, do you not? You do know that about half of supposed incidents of hate crimes are actually hoaxes, yes? 0bama is a Saul Alinksy student. Black Propaganda is part of the art.

Cameron's report on FNC was revealing: McCain is clearly diluting his message. He needs to stop. Whatever we do is going to be reported negatively by the Dinosaur media. Acceding to their demands for "civility" is surrender by another name. Meanwhile, 0bama's supporters are committing literally thousands of felonies in venues across the United States. If you aren't frightened by the prospect of an American President elected by ballot box stuffing, you aren't sufficiently engaged.

Sarah had documented differences with Monegan on many issues, not just the trooper. She offered him another job in government, different from the position he held, but equal in stature. He declined, and in doing so chose to leave government employment. His choice. She was fair to him.
