ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor in the firing of her former public safety commissioner, but violated no laws, a report for the state Legislature concluded Friday.
Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law from the state police force was "likely a contributing factor" to Monegan's July dismissal, but Palin had the authority as governor to sack him, the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower states.

If the trooper wasn't her ex-brother-in-law, there would be no "abuse of power" allegations -- she would have been well within her authority to fire him, his boss and his boss's boss if they were told and did nothing.
Maybe she should have just have sent the Attorney General after him.
Gov. Palin needs to address this issue right away, face the cameras and say why she wanted him fired. He'll get no sympathy.
look at the NYSlimes....
“A legislative committee investigating Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, the Republican vice presidential candidate, issued a report Friday night that found she unlawfully abused her authority by firing the states public safety commissioner.”

unlawfully???? seems to me that could be slander on Palin...
And by “abused her power” they mean “used her power properly, but in doing so fired a back stabbing Democrat”.
Just an example. Clinton abused his power by taking advantage of a young girl, yet he broke no laws.
Gov Palin didn’t violate laws should be the lede..
NOPE they went with SHE ABUSED POWER!!
LOL
Gave them credit too soon.
What a sham this entire election process has been.
Ha ha ha! They felt compelled to find her guilty of something, so they simply said she abused the power of her office, even though she was within her right to fire the dope. When they're out to get you, if they can't find any actual wrongdoing, they pick a violation out of a hat and pin it on you, then try to justify it. It's all BS, and a waste of time and money.

Palin violated no law and had the power to sack her former public safety commissioner. I took a look at the 263 page report that contains excruciating detail about nothing of substance. It should be one page. It looks like some political hack weasel-worded the "abuse" statement on the basis of subjective judgement and dislike for Sarah Palin and/or her family. What a waste of time and money and trees. The report is certainly not green!
Oh good grief.. he’s lucky it wasn’t me. I would have broken the MFR’s legs...but then again..I grew up in Chicago!
Fox is using AP. I wish there was someway to boycott AP but they have such a monopoly.
Staying within the confines of the law is now an abuse of power?
Being concerned as a family about an out of control ex-member of that family who is armed and has made threats is an inappropriate thing?
It’s irritating, isn’t it? She broke no laws. The horribly biased guy running the “investigation” determined that she abused her power because while she was within her right to remove Monegan and she had good reason to do so, she also had a personal agenda. Whether she had a personal agenda or not is totally irrelevant once it is determined she had reason to remove Monegan and the lawful ability to do so.
In other words, the headline is total bullshit.
I agree. Pray for her right now. She needs to jump right on this. Speak up. Tell about this man, and that he in fact had a domestic abuse charge against him by his own ex-wife...where is THAT investigation? I pray that she would release the disrespectful emails he sent to her, to the public, at a press conference. Along with his exwife’s charges it is pretty clear that this man didn’t respect women. Thought he could bully them. And now, the court is trying to back him up. Good ole boy network....
She must show the emails. I heard they were very bad.
Just finished going through the thing. There is NOTHING there. The prosecutor, Breakwind, spent lots of Alaskan time and money to create a one day DemonRat talking point.
He found that she had other reasons to fire him.
He found that she didn’t need a reason to fire him.
He found that she legally fired him.
There is no evidence that SP ever told Monoxide to fire Wooten.
Wooten wasn’t fired.
Monoxide didn’t even have the power to fire Wooten, and Palin knew it. Wooten was a union employee.
It’s all BS, but you have to read 240 pages to figure it out.
