ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor in the firing of her former public safety commissioner, but violated no laws, a report for the state Legislature concluded Friday.
Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law from the state police force was "likely a contributing factor" to Monegan's July dismissal, but Palin had the authority as governor to sack him, the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower states.

What’s the world coming to when CNN is more balance than FOX.
Yet, he declares she "abused her power", which will the breathless headline all weekend. No wonder they wanted to shut this joke down.
How can a Governor abuse power but break no laws?
I’m telling you, Fox NEWS is in many ways much worse than CNN. The only reason Fox is “conservative” is because of the commentators and pundits they hire, not the news people.
AP report also at MSNBC. Somebody needs firing.
Good question. Typical, left-wing bias headline!
It is what is was in the beginning . Democrats going after her on BS. She says she fired him for good cause and I’m fine with that.
It actually says both of those things in the report.
I think this will backfire on the DNC
Aw shucks. All the heavy breathing from the Tinglers in the Obamedia over the last couple months was wasted. Sorry CNNPMSNBCabcSeeBSNBCNYT and of course, the WaPoHos.
This is and always has been a nothing issue. People understand that state employees get fired by the Gov. Period, end of story.
Normal people, that is.
It might be our last chance to save the Nation.
Probably some ACORN corny, and nutty people have them spoofed. A contradictory statement, ABUSED POWER, but broke no laws...MAKES no sense. CNN kudos for calling it fair
I agree. I find it hard to believe that any one wants to stand behind a wife beater who may or may not been fired because he didn’t fire a taser firing cop.
When they find it I hope they're like the Jewish Defense League.
Another potential arrow from Obamas quiver disengages. ;-)
“How can a Governor abuse power but break no laws?”
She’s a Republican! Every decision she makes is, by Rat definition, an abuse of power. Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez also “abused his power” firing U.S. Attorneys, while likewise breaking no law! The Rats own the MSM; ain’t it great for them?
This is quite a different headline from CNN than the one Fox was just writing, isn’t it?
And I didn’t realize BRANCHFLOWER was the one behind it.
Never mind!
