STOP IT, PLEASE JUST STOP IT (anti-Chicken Little vanity rant)
Yours Truly | October 9, 2008 | Yours Truly

ENOUGH!!!

Can we just knock it off with all the doom-and-gloom in this place???

I swear I'm gonna bite my hand (or something else) if I see one more post about hoarding food and stocking on ammo.

It's not the end of the world. Jesus is not coming yet. No Armageddon yet.

It's just the market's response to years of greed, laxity, crookedness and all-around incompetence.

Granted, times are tough, and livelihoods are on the balance, but we need to hang tough and ride the storm.

I come from a place in which a decade ago the banking system actually seized up, and learned the lesson of living within one's means, with little or no debt.

The American people in general will have once again to live according to income, and not try to pimp our lives by incurring in unnecessary debt.

And for those who already see themselves in the "USSA" under Premier O'bama, what little faith and courage.

Instead of bitching about how you will go underground, or flee to Costa Rica, or prepare to live under Dear Comrade Barack, WORK TO GET JOHN MCCAIN ELECTED!!!

Phone bank. Volunteer. Knock on doors. Get out the vote (yes, conservatives should do this, too!!!). BE PROACTIVE!!!

Then, maybe we can control our national destiny for once, and not let ourselves be imposed a false messiah by the MSM.

And speaking of the MSM... STOP PAYING SO MUCH ATTENTION TO IT!!!

Watch a movie, the Discovery Channel, or even better, have dinner at the dinner table, talk to your spouses, your children, your parents, read a book, surf websites other than news ones. Don't let yourselves be led by trends, bias, spin or lies. Be steadfast on your viewpoints.

And for those who say that the country will go to hell if Bar-Ack O'Bama is elected???

If this country survived 8 years of Bubba, it can survive 4 to 8 years of That One.

Too optimistic??? You may be right. But God is on my side, and He will always be.

Pray for yourself, pray for your family, pray for your country. I always do.

Remember: no matter what happens, the future is always brighter, and the Gipper's shining city on the hill will be at the end of the road. /rant off.

there was a time not too long ago when nobody had 401k’s

There was also a time when making $25,000 was a very good income ... that was then this is now. Again, very little comfort to those possibly losing their investments.

If times have changed, as it appears they have, I don’t want to be the ostrich with its’ head in the sand. I’d rather have a freezer full of ostrich meat and be ready for good or bad times, whatever comes.

It's good to be prepared. No one ever thought most of the country would lose power for a few days, but we did.

Jesus could come any moment. Until then, we “occupy til He comes.” I take that to mean do the best with what you have been given and keep pressing forward.

It's just a market correction. It's bad because it's not a Internet bubble, or a shopping center overbuild. The bubble occurred in the housing sector which is the largest part of the financial backbone of this and most other developed countries.

It will pass and the worst thing anyone can do now, is sell at the bottom, yet many did today. fear makes people do wrong things and that is a given in the market.

Over the next few years we will recover, and we will have the usual perp walks as the blame game begins. I just hope they get the right ones.

This started in Congress. It was fueled and supported by Congress, and it was not the Republicans who did it.

The Wall street people are secondary to this as they only did what they always do, and that is to find new and innovative ways to sell risks for profit. They can only do what the regulators allow them to or make it possible for them to do. greed is a part of the process on both ends of the sale. The seller and the buyer both expect to profit. That is normal.

As far as the election, I can't help. I never have liked McCain and never will. It's not my fault that the GOP put him up and helped him beat Romney, and I am not very forgiving. The winner will win, and the loser will lose. The public will get what they voted for in either case.

Well, my 401k probably *has* tanked dramatically, and has me a bit worried. On the other hand, years ago I set out to reduce or eliminate my debt by X amount, just simply by paying it off and not spending any more. I was in a position to do so, and did so. So instead of tens of thousand of debt some 10 years ago, its only a handful of thousand now, with the remaining being easily payable in cash if needed.

As a conservative, I don't care to be beholden to any fiscal entity other than myself, and so have shunned this 'credit market' which to me seemed out of control and not in my best personal interest.

Not to gloat about it, but I made the right decision 10 years ago.

This is so true. It’s not normal, the way we have the media 24/7/365 always pounding bad news into our brains. To have a daily barrage of the actions of every nit wit seeking their 15 minutes, every political disagreement, every natural disaster, every murder, every war, every dip and turn of the stock market flooding our brains all the time is not normal.

And it’s good to remember the media goes into an obsession about things! Day and night studying one subject from every single angle. And the media creates suspense so you will keep watching all day long to get answers. It’s not normal
and it will make very sick and very paranoid if you listen to it all the time.

Sometimes you just have to take a break and let the rest of the world go by so you can get your sense of perspective back.

I can’t believe people are selling at the bottom like this! We are riding it all the way down and it is hell. Pure hell. But selling at the bottom, to me that is so foolish!!

Jesus IS coming. Look busy.

One should always hoard food and stockpile ammo.

I respect McCain as an American hero but I am having a very difficult time voting for him for president. I will be voting more for Sarah Palin and against obambi. I still live in the greatest country on earth.

The way I see it, if you did not get out a year ago, or are day trading, there is little point to taking the losses now. Wait at least for the relief rally.

I think we are near full capitulation, but it will be rocky and I figure there will be a retest of the lows at some point, once we get there. It could go down another 500 or so. If that happens tomorrow and the market rebounds before the close, that should signal the bottom.

“I will be voting more for Sarah Palin”

Palin has already been tainted by McCain’s socialism. In a few years, she will be as far left as Bill Clinton was, at least fiscally.
