BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Republican Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign disavowed an introduction here yesterday that included Democratic Sen. Barack Obama's middle name, Hussein.
William Platt, chairman of the Lehigh County Republican Party, twice referred to "Barack Hussein Obama," which other supporters of McCain and running mate Sarah Palin have used to link the Democratic candidate with Muslims. Obama is not a Muslim.
McCain has disavowed the tactic, most recently when it was employed earlier this week.
"We do not condone this inappropriate rhetoric which distracts from the real questions of judgment, character and experience that voters will base their decisions on this November," campaign spokesman Paul Lindsay said in a prepared statement.

I will not bow to “Fearless Leader”. There is no mocking of his name, it is a proper reflection on the man.
If he can’t handle people using his full name (or in the case of Dubya, just calling him by it) then he doesn’t have the mettle to be President.
Barack REDACTED Obama.
Aren’t these other names muslim too?
Imagine our current "show" election without talk radio, FreeRepublic, NRA ads, etc.
It is an affirmation to the left that the right wing are evil. They and their media will say- “see! even john mccain agrees with us!” Better if McCain had just said, “Hussein is the guy’s middle name. Mine is Sidney. Remember my name when you vote for me on November 4th”.
What McCain should have done:
He should have held a full press conference where he says: “my campaign will not make an issue of Obama’s full name, ‘Barack Hussein Obama’. I ‘ve instructed my staff to pass the word, to not point out the ‘Hussein’ is Barack’s middle name.”
That would have insured the widest possible coverage of the issue! :)
Which is why you will likely lose and leave us to the mercy of a manchurian leftist you spineless bastards.
Everyday I see more reasons to shoot the fools who foisted McCain on us.
There were so many better choices that could have fought for us more eloquently and diligently and not despised the base like ol Johnny does.
If he hadn't nominated Sarah, he'd be done 20 points.
You know, it just occurred to me that every time the McCain campaign officially disavows the use of Obama’s middle name, it reminds us all that Obama’s middle name is, in fact, “Hussein,” and keeps that issue in the press.
McCain may be smarter than we think, folks...
Exactly!
I honestly don't understand why people are getting so worked up about this when we have the Ayers and ACORN issues getting hot.
Maybe some people just like to get worked up. ;-)
Maybe they do. Maybe McCain should, too, rather than placating the left’s cries not to use the name Hussein. It might actually help. We agree, it’s just a name. No reason for anyone to get worked up over it if someone chooses to use it.
I agree that it shouldn’t be an issue, but there’s no good reason to bring it up; it makes the person yelling it sound like a bigot. Better to bring up issues and character rather than a name he didn’t choose for himself. The appearance of bigotry can turn off a lazy voter, but a lazy voter’s ballot counts just as much as anyone else’s, so why make drama for no other reason than making drama?
I never said people didn’t know the middle names, just that they don’t usually say them. I don’t even know McCain’s and Palin’s middle names and certainly wouldn’t waste my breathe every time I referred to them.
As for the W, Pres. Bush shares a similar name to his father and is delineated from the former Pres. Bush by use of his middle name, since he isn’t Bush, Jr.
False. A Google search of “Hillary Rodham Clinton” brings back 6,380,000 results.
It’s usage is extremely common.
Some people like to go that extra bit and include the middle name, especially when they are taking someone to task. For instance, as a kid, whenever I was in trouble, which was often, my mother would call me by my full name. She’d say Umberto Miguel Dominguez Yefferson Smeeth, jur in beeg trouble jung mang. So if someone wants to refer to barack by his full name, particularly someone who opposes him, I can understand.
This is such a silly issue.
The job requires the thickest skin ever created.
I'm not sure anyone can make an argument that it's improper to use a person's middle name.
But they'll try.
And the names I provided earlier, people did use them and often just like they'll use Mr. Obama's if he's elected.
......just that they dont usually say them......
The middle name is used to make positive identity and is a persons legal identity. The middle name discriminates between persons having the same first and last names.
Barrack was named Hussein specifically to honor an Islamic saint. Hussein is his legal name.
It is important.
