Four Mexican officers are found guilty in the death of an Oregon tourist near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The Yoncalla tourist on vacation was beaten in a Mexican jail, after getting arrested for stabbing a man outside his rented condo. A judge decided to convict the four Mexican jail guards of manslaughter. A surveillance video shows the men beating Sam Botner to death in a Cabo San Lucas jail. Botner and his wife were vacationing in Mexico to celebrate his completion of a commercial fishing trip.

There was an article in Surfer magazine within the last year that documented the corruption of the Federales down near Tijuana - the guys barely escaped with their lives after being robbed and beaten by the police. When they went to get help from the town police, they were robbed again.

Mexico is garbage and note how many of its citizens come here to commit crime.

A woman colleague of mine, when I worked in Hollywood, went to a fancy pants hotel in Alcapulco and never came home. Locals found her body in the ocean surf. It seems the handyman at the hotel stabbed her numerous times and dragged her out to the ocean and drowned her. Unfortunately for the company she was working for...they got the call to come and claim her body!

A Dentists wife here in Reno came back from Cancun with some freaky eye bacteria and almost lost her eye! It looked like something out of a horror movie. She was finally able to get it under control after a couple months but MDs from Stanford could not even figure out what the bacteria was!

You would be surpised at how many patients come into our office with a case of nasty parasites and/or worms after visiting Mexico...... (ewwwwwww!)

That is not an uncommon Mexico tale, it is not unusual at all to have multiple run ins with Mexican corruption during a single visit.

Each cop is a free agent, bribing one cop does not exempt you from the next one.

Public school administrators claim that the traditional beat downs given out on the last day of classes have subsided in recent years, but that could be window dressing as teachers have been known to literally walk away from racial violence.

Like I say, I’ve been here for 40 years and my two daughters went through all the grades here. That kill Haole day thing is a bunch of crap. Yes it was going around but more like a joke. No Haole ever got killed here although a few with smart mouths and and attitude got roughed up a bit. 99% of the time those few had it coming (whether haole’s or any other race). Don’t believe all that you hear or read.

Playa Del Carmen is great, I honeymooned a little south of there. It's not as touristy as Cancun and some other places.

Cancun, you can keep. Go to Myrtle Beach, SC....it's exactly the same thing.

I guess they had no will to make it here. All the new comers I know that are living here don't give a damn what anyone else thinks. They just know they like it here and are going to stay and be happy. They paid a fortune for their house and are determined to make paradise their home. Yes, there are a few Hawaiians with an “attitude” but very few and far between and like you or not, there is nothing they can do about you being here.

Oh absolutely!!! My point was that you are pretty much guaranteed to catch something creepy while in Mexico! LOL! We tell our patients if you are embarking on a Mexico excursion....take a super duper high powered Probiotics with strains of S. boulardii. (And no....yoghurt is not good enough....LOL!)

Strange, I bought a house here on Oahu two years ago and my neighbors are mostly fine with us. Hard to believe your friends found an area to buy in that had people with that attitude.

But, it can happen I suppose, which is why we chose our neighborhood with the advice of a realtor. There are a few "local" communities where our presence might have been an issue. Now that we dress and act like locals, no big deal.

The four Mexican officers were obviously new to the game.

They hadn't had time to accumilate enough money to pay the judge to acquit them. Their case will be studied by all new Mexican policemen as an example not to kill tourists before they have enough money to stay out of jail.

Don't worry about the policemen, however...they will most likely be out in a few weeks, when the dust settles...and while they are in jail, they will not be uncomfortable.

Federales are responsible for the majority of the crime that goes on there. I will never travel to Mexico again.

I have been to the US-Mexico border numerous times in the past 30 yrs..and never went into Mexico. That is nothing more than a Third World latrine pit.

From what I understand, many of our “immigrant friends” have contributed to the rise of tuberculosis in this country, and even diseases like leprosy, and are bringing back diseases that we had eradicated in this country. And I’ve heard stories of what some of the farm workers do to the produce they’re picking.
