New Poll Shows Traditional Marriage in the Lead [California]

Yes on 8 is leading the race, 47% Yes to 42% No, with 10% undecided, according to a new CBS 5 (San Francisco) poll. That is up 3% for Yes and down 7% for No since September 25th -- a total of a 10% gain for Yes. On September 25th, CBS 5's poll showed the race at 44% Yes to 49% No, with 7% undecided. Yes on 8 is attributing the gain to their first television ad, which was released last week, and to their massive door to door campaign.

The ad features footage of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom arrogantly speaking of gay marriage, declaring to Californians, "The door's wide open now. It's gonna happen, whether you like it or not!" The ad goes on to remind voters that gay marriage was imposed on California by a narrowly divided California Supreme County overturning the vote of over 4 million Californians who overwhelmingly passed Proposition 22.

Everytime I see newsom in that irritating ad it makes my blood boil. I don’t care how anyone else lives, but his snarky statement “whether you like it or not” just p’s me off!

The mere fact that we even have to vote on this crap is a sign of how far America has strayed from its founding roots.

It would be nice if even one candidate for any office would come out and tell the truth, that seemingly disparate issues like “gay marriage”, the credit meltdown concocted by Acorn, the leftist indoctrination of schoolchildren pushed by outfits like the Annenberg Challenge, the war on relilgion, etc. are all part of the same big conspiracy, the Gramscian Marxist plot to destroy middleclass civilization and replace it with a utopian collectivist anthill.

It’s like that scene in THE EXORCIST where the young priest tries to brief Max von Sydow on how many different demons are possessing Linda Blair, and Max stops him and says, “There’s only one.”

You know what I realized? The more the gay movement tries to expose themselves and attempt to make gay cool or acceptable, the more normal, sensible, logical and religious people cringe.

Their own commercials will cause the downfall of gay marriage...for the moment.

I travel everyday to West Hollywood, CA and it is sickening at how they strut down the street showing off their gayness, as if it was a badge of honor. If they make a choice to be gay, let them, but keep it to yourself for goodness sakes, it’s called tact. I’ve become acceptant of people who have contrary values and beliefs I have, it does nothing for my case to try to demonize them.

Which is exactly why it's being used in the ad.

If 8 passes, it won’t matter. The opposition will just judge-shop and have it overturned. Arnold and Jerry are in full accord with the homosexual agenda, so there won’t be an appeal. This is exactly what happened when definition of marriage passed by 2/3 majority a few years back.

Except this is a constitutional amendment, which Prop 22 wasn’t. I don’t think the state supreme court can overturn the state’s constitution.

A constitutional amendment CANNOT be overturned. All Prop. 8 would do is just overrule the California Supreme Court's May decision to impose same sex marriage upon California despite what the people wanted. Since a state's constitution is the supreme law of the state, the courts and the legislative and executive branches are bound by it. Its sad we have to amend the state constitution to protect marriage but the judicial activist liberals on the California Supreme Court has left the people with no other choice.

if this has a shot in CA then so does mccain

I've lived in California for decades. I have never doubted for a second that Prop. 8 would pass. McCain, however, stands no chance. There are loads of people here (Latinos, Asians, blacks, public employees, union members, retirees, etc) who will always vote 'Rat because they want the entitlements but who oppose the radical gay agenda. Such folks don't get too many chances to push back against the mandatory-sodomy-lessons-in-public-preschools crowd. When they do get such a chance, push back they will.

Anytwosome Newsome may have been swept up in the moment when he made that comment, but was it ever a stupid thing to say.

It was a stupid thing to say and he looks like a plus-perfect poofter saying it which doesn't help the gays either.

I hope things work out that way. It's how it should work out but in California, nothing surprises me anymore. If Sacramento brazenly defied the new constitutional amendment and dared prop 8 backers to sue them in federal court, I wouldn't be shocked.

well done to all CA folk who have fought this and not just done nothing

I only hope those in MA and now CT do not give up and fight the homosexuals
first it was civil unions
then marriage
then adoption
then teaching homo way in schools

they will never stop pushing their sickness onto the majority

If the people of those two states do not fight then either move to NH if you want to stay in New England or move out to VA,FL,NM,AZ to make those states more red

I got my wife out of MA and no way would I ever live in a state what has the sham homo sick perverted so called marriage

having lived in that state I would say that most voters in MA are just plain dumb.
they see a D at the end of a name and then vote for it

next day they always moan about it

Thankfully I got my family out of the state, no way would that state get any money form me to they can give it to homo groups and homo teaching

you mean like today in CT

I have a question on this, could no one go to the supreme court and take this case futher thus putting the sham marriage on hold .

Is there no way the people of CT could stop this

I’m not religious but I find it disgusting as does everyone I know.

Now I have no idea as to why the homosexuals think it is just religious folk who are opposed to it

but I tell you what, when I see judges forcing this issue on the people or the MA legislature telling the folks they will not vote on it then I am more determined to stop them pushing their perverted view on us

This is a good sign because the conservative side in these marriage votes always wins by a wider margin than predicted in the polls.

We were sweating, even here in conservative Texas, in 2005 because the homophiles were throwing big money into the anti-amendment campaign, convoluting the issue with threats of all marriages being invalidated by passage of the amendment. Man, were they wrong. We passed it with over 76% - more than 3 to 1. I'm hoping California has the same spirit.
