Rasmussen ^

Posted on 10/06/2008 6:33:32 AM PDT by CatOwner

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Barack Obama attracting 52% of the vote while John McCain earns 44%. This is the highest level of support ever recorded for Obama and is his largest lead of the year. It also continues a remarkable twenty-five days in a row where the Democrat’s support has never declined by even a single point. The Democratic candidate has gained six full percentage points of support since Lehman Brothers collapsed to start the Wall Street mess ...

That needs shouted from the rooftops not to mention national polling is garbage. Each state votes individually and no matter what national polls say it makes no difference in each state. Why people pay attention to Rasmussen makes me wonder about the person when he has been proven wrong time and time again.

People have a short memory that Carter was up on Reagan and going to be the next President; Mondale was going to wipe out Reagan; Dukakis was going to win by a landslide against Bush; Gore was going to wipe out Bush; Kerry was winning big even in exit polling. Just a little refresher for those that live by the polls.

Anyone sitting home in this election to teach anyone a lesson better think twice about what lies ahead with Obama. Go work for McCain/Palin, make calls, talk to people, and most importantly make sure everyone you know supporting McCain/Palin gets out and votes!

Good analysis, John. But how can one explain the complete turnaround of Iowa into a solidly blue state? I think you are right about the population shifts having an effect on ideology, but there may be multiple factors at play in addition to the one you mention.

You miss the point. Polls have become a weapon that campaigns and the MSM use. If Rasmussen is going to supply the weapon he needs to be held accountable. He IS saying that Osbama will get 50%+ of the vote.

Forget about the polls and do something! I've photocopied the best of the "worst" articles about Obama. When I see an Obama/Biden sign, I note the address and mail them a packet of articles. When I see an Obama bumper sticker, I put a couple of articles under the wiper.

People who live, work, and frequent the businesses in my area ought to know better.

not that strange talk about earmarks

I pray to God he does not say a peep about earmarks tomorrow night. If he does, he will be a laughingstock after voting for that bailout and all those earmarks. Please Senator McCain talk about how you will improve the economy not wasteful spending...

True, but only if the election was held today.

I live in very conservative West Texas and I have seen 20-1 Obama yard signs. That alone tells me polls are not lying. I never would have believed it would happen here, and I still think McCain will take Texas but the landscape is a changing.

Unfortunately the war is lost.

It's about as lost as the one Harry Reid was referring to. Election day is still 29 days away, FRiend. Nothing is lost until after the polls close.

BTW, how are things over in the desert?

Ah, this relates to the previous comment. ;-) Things are relatively peaceful and calm, the Iraqis are taking more and more of their security functions over and doing quite a good job, and the rebuild is clipping right along. The Parliament is getting better and better at working together to achieve solutions that appeal to the general population.

Many of the refugees who fled the violence and sectarian tensions are coming home.

The streets are busy, the shops, restaurants and parks are crowded, construction is going on all over town and this has become quite a happy place. It smells like victory!

The election is not lost any more than Iraq was lost even though it looked very dark and formidable in those days.

Hang in there, FRiend and keep the faith.

Obama’s team is making the argument with all the new democrat registered voters.

In many battleground states, the increase in democrat registered voters is what they are basing their argument. Where can we find the break downs on newly registered voters by state?

North Carolina is an example of where there a greater number of democrat voters within the past month.

Voter turnout, Dems were bragging about their recent efforts in NC and PA on 9-28-08:

NC new registrations:

New Dems in the last week - 13,732
New Repubs in last week - 5,015

New Dems since 6/1/08 - 85,105
New Repubs since 6/1/08 - 20,033

No details on PA.

McCain wins or loses tomorrow night.

I think you've hit it on the head there. It's McCain's best remaining opportunity to clobber 0bama on the economy and to get the subprime albatross off of his own neck. If he doesn't get it done tomorrow, I doubt the 3rd debate will matter much.

But I do recall clueless people here making comments that Clinton just could not win a second term and that the polls were a fake.

I remember people talking like that too (not here) and he won a huge majority of the electoral college...that was downright embarassing for those folks who had their head in the sand.

When Obama gets in we'll all have oodles of time to Freep without worrying about workstuff.

"When Obama gets in."

You're just giving up? Just like that? You do know that the election is still 29 days away, right? You don't really believe everything the polls and the media say, do you?

Thank God our troops and those of us working in support of them did not have that attitude. Thank God our founding fathers didn't feel that way just because the going got tough back in the early days of our nation.

Chin up. Have faith.

I don’t know why those are his targets, but those are his indeed published targets. Rass is better than most because he at least publicly publishes his targets.

Don't get too excited. That is just a pump fake. They are trying to force Obama to spend a few bucks in California.

George Bush was heavily criticized in 2000, I think. The campaign spent no money in California and the GOP establishment was furious because it meant that there was less excitement and turnout for the downticket races.

In 2004, they spent some money and campaigned a little in California, but that again, was so Kerry had to spend a few bucks there, but the main reason was to provide some support and help with the downticket races. The Bush campaign thought they had a chance in 2004, but lost by 12 points in California which was better than the 17 in 2000.

McCain has no chance in California.

I'll try. I just get so dang frustrated with ALL politicians and especially the media. They've beat me down pretty good. Thanks for the peptalk.

? That's not at all the way it went down, and I suspect you know it.

Yes, that's exactly how it went down. McCain was caught, along with the others. He skated with only the admonition that he used "poor judgment". Why don't you try looking at the facts of the case instead of the hysterical rantings found posted by the Repubots. You might learn something even though sometimes "the truth hurts". It was very difficult for some people to accept that John Glenn was involved as he was a national hero.

Facts are facts.

That's exactly their intent. They want to demoralize us. Don't let that nasty media do that to you. Let's defeat them! We're better than they are.

:-D

Worry? About what?

Seriously, the idea that democrats are going to outpace republicans by 6% in national turnout is laughable on its face. Do you know how many votes equals 1% of the turnout?

121 Million people voted in 04, and 101 Million voted in 00, 86 Million in 96. Based on these trends you are looking at about 130-140 Million votes will be cast this election... 1% of the vote = 1.3 to 1.4 Million 6% is 7.8 to 8.4 Million votes. There is no way you are going to have around 8 Million more democrats show up on election day than republicans nationally, it just ain’t going to happen.

People really need to relax. Work hard, never get complacent, but this sky is falling nonsense is just that, NONSENSE. It defies every rational analysis to believe that the guy who can’t get middle class white voter support, has the PUMA issue and who has never actually faced a hard campaign, is going to show up on election day when his support even among straight democrats is lower than Kerry’s in the demographic polling.

I am not saying be complacent, but if you examine the internals of polling when you can get them, you can see the race is not remotely what’s being portrayed on TV.

That economy number is amazing, if it is accurate. I thought I read it wrong at first but you quoted it directly. McCain has a 1 point advantage over 0 on the economy?? Stunning. All we are hearing is that the bad economic news has given 0bama the edge. This poll says McCain actually does better on that issue, if only by a tiny margin. Why then would 0bama lead by 7 overall? Something doesn’t quite add up. I do believe if the election were held today 0/B would win. But these numbers are just too screwy.
