Ifill and Republican Wimps
http://corner.nationalreview.com/ ^ | Kirsanow | Peter

The refrain from most of the GOP talking heads over the last twenty four hours concerning Gwen Ifill's role during the VP debate is that she's a fine journalist, who, now that the fact of her book is public knowledge, shouldn't be precluded from moderating the event. Heck, it may even work to Palin's advantage because Ifill will be under intense scrutiny to be fair and balanced.

This rationale points to the GOP's ( and, to some extent, conservatives') nearly wholesale capitulation to liberal media dominance and is one of the reasons the GOP base find themselves so frequently dispirited: no objection, no fight, no pushback to a howling conflict of interest.

We're instructed that it's perfectly understandable when all of the Democratic presidential candidates refuse to debate on Fox. But Republicans are supposed to quietly take their medicine from a moderator with a direct financial interest in an Obama/ Biden victory.

I concur that Ifill's a professional. That's not the point. Republicans will find themselves losing more and more often if they do not vigorously challenge these media travesties. And it's the right thing to do for the country. A partisan, cheerleading press is not a hallmark of a free and democratic society.

So many times we see Republicans act "gentlemanly" and turn the other cheek —to what end? It simply emboldens the media toward even greater bias. How does that serve the interests of the country? Democrat fingerprints are all over the current financial mess; Dodd and Frank were integral to the debacle, yet the GOP does nothing to counter the prevailing narrative that this is a McCain—House Republican problem—and McCain's poll numbers plummet.

I'd add that, as a black conservative, I have noticed many conservative talking heads take a more "gentlemanly" approach when it comes to attacking black politicos.

... she's a fine journalist...

Hardly a compliment. Gwenny got shipped to PBS when she cried while reporting that the House had voted to impeach the first black president. She'a a partisan fool.

Why not use Corsi (who wrote the book ObamaNation) for the next debate. Fair is fair.

McCain’s camp screwed up by not getting on top of this sooner. The information was out there in August and shame on them for not picking up on it.

Now, Ifill has sullied the event with her conflict of interest and for that she should recuse herself. Her need to be on TV will prevent that but it is the right thing to do.

Isn’t the whole ifil dust-up really about framing the debate and managing expectations? Where’s the wimp in that? I think it succeeded.

Ifill is “Pat” from the SNL skit! What an androgenous moron! I hope she’s writhing in pain from from her leftist broken foot! But, as all leftists, she’s probably so “coked” up she can’t feel a thing!

McCain looks like he will lose due to one word: wimp. He just accepts the Democrat narrative and agrees that Washington is the solution to our problems. If you're a conservative, nothing could be further from the truth. But tell that to Republicans who want to be loved and adored by the Democrats in the name of "bipartisanship." Those who lovingly tout its virtues will be slaughtered in November.

Why? Because they live in abject terror that the MSM will say or write something negative about them.

McCain is not helping himself with all these wacky complaints just prior to the debates. First suspending his campaign a couple of days before, then questioning the moderator. He should either have done it sooner or not talked about it. True or not, it looks like he’s scared.

There is no such thing as a “journalist” anymore, 99% of the field to replace her will be exactly the same.

Perhaps you are Right. I surely hope so. But somehow I feel that Sarah has been setup for a slaughter. In particular because I think Biden knows exactly what will be asked and in what sequence.

I pray I am wrong. I do know that Sarah is intelligent and has very good interpersonal skills, so I still am trying very hard to be optimistic!

Still, how is Ifill really going to do much damage to Palin? Even if she is biased, she is just asking questions.

To me this seems like whining. If anything, Ifill is going to be extra soft on Palin because of this story.

I can’t wait to hear Sarah congratulating Ifill on her forthcoming book. That should be in her opening statement!

They want to show the MSM Republicans can be good liberals, too.

“Heck, it may even work to Palin’s advantage because Ifill will be under intense scrutiny to be fair and balanced.”

I agree but Ifill should announce on television at the beginning of the debate before she asks any questions that she is the author of a book about Obama to be released on inauguration day of all days. And if Ifill doesn't then Palin should "congratulate" Ifill on her book BEFORE answering ANY questions.

This is just common sense and ethics and anyone with either would recuse themselves from the position. But since liberals have neither she is still moderating.

A person of honor would recuse themselves.

When this Ifill conflict arose, McCain just lay down and rolled over.

The only person who has done ANYTHING to get the truth out about this MSM scandal is Matt Drudge. He deserves our thanks once again for what he is doing right now on his web page.

A feisty photo of Sarah Palin, and the TRUTH about Gwen Ifill, who lied to the election commission and should have been thrown out on her ear.

If she would lie like that, can anyone doubt that she has given Joe Biden the questions to be asked during the debate, days ahead of time—just as Stumblng and Stuttering Obama was given the questions beforehand, so he could memorize his answers.
