McCain's 'Stop Sarah Palin' strategy working like a charm, polls show
LA Times ^ | 10/2/2008 | Andrew Malcolm

Posted on 10/02/2008 5:06:36 AM PDT by markomalley

Fresh evidence tonight that the brilliant McCain campaign strategy to lock away the political effervesence of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to stoke overconfidence among the nation's Democrats and set the stage for yet another improbable Arizona comeback is working exactly as planned.

For more than 10 days now the 44-year-old mother of five, who upset the ancient Republican establishment in Alaska two years ago by driving herself to campaign events and talking to pretty much any group that would have her, has been cut off from normal Americans who watched her by the many millions give a spunky speech at the Republican National Convention and then overnight turned her name into seven of the top 10 search terms on Google.

But John McCain's strategists had a better idea than letting Palin be Palin. They set her up with TV reporters born to ask questions until they found some she couldn't answer.

No doubt the campaign's idea was to show the hockey mom was pretty much like any other American who couldn't recall Marbury v Madison if their cellphone depended on it.

Wait, come to think of it, the other vice presidential candidate didn't cite a famous Supreme Court case by name either. But nevermind. We don't want to confuse the conventional Palin story line.

So the pressure is even greater for Thursday night's sole vice presidential debate between Palin and Democrat Joe Biden, the senator from somewhere who wears his hair down pretty much all the time.

McCain agreeing with Obama on the bail out is the final act for me. Sorry McLame will not be supporting you any more.

I am sure that our military will enjoy Obama as president after all the sacrifices they have made--Nice way to thank them

And when Obama and the dems get done with packing the LIFE TIME SCOTUS and federal judgeships with left wing activists so that freedom of the press, religion and the right to bear arms are degreed out of existence you will see the REAL FINAL ACT in the death of this republic

So, far these posts agree with the LA Times. McCain p*ss me off, but, hey, something always does, every now and then. I am going to see Gov. Palin at Home Depot this weekend. Maybe it will make me feel better.

Folks, I made my mind up about this based upon my own observations since the convention, not upon what I'd read in the LA Times or any other MSM rag...and this was crystallized after I heard her talk on the Hannity radio show yesterday afternoon.

Posting this thread was not a rant against Sarah (a re-reading of my original comments would clearly show that)...I think that McLame's handlers are over-managing her...and I don't think the over-management is working.

Does my disgust mean that I am voting for a third party or not voting? No. Not Hardly.

But let me tell you: after I heard that McLame put her up for the VP post, I actually had, for the first time since 1984, somebody to vote for, rather than casting my ballot against the Dhimmicrat. But with her assimilation into the McBorg collective, I am starting to opine differently.

MY FIRST HOPE is that McLame actually starts standing up for himself and recaptures the initiative. HE COULD WIN if he did so aggressively and without mercy. But if that doesn't happen, my contingent hope is that he doesn't destroy her future political opportunities by the performance he is apparently requiring her to deliver during this non-campaign. Because I think, if she is not utterly ruined by McLame, she has a very bright future in conservative politics.

I just don't get your point. I am voting to keep nObama OUT of the WH and I am going to be in the resistance to keep McCain from giving in to the liberals. Why would you deliberately give in to nObama thinking that the country will rise up against him? that is magical thinking and it isn't going to happen. He is a marxist with muslim sympathies he can not be allowed to get near the WH with a democrat controlled congress.

Man this place is depressing. How anybody could vote third party in an election with a Marxist who wants to silence all voiced of descent and will likey have state run tv if he wins is beyond me.

Do you guys like Savage, Hannity or Rush. If this guy wins they may not be around long.

Listen - no offense but some of us are still working hard for the campaign. If you people want to abandon ship go ahead but don’t try to bring the ship down with you.

Go elsewhere and spread your doom and gloom...

“The majority might want to give marxism a try. What do you think?”

I think the electorate has been brainwashed and or uneducated. They don’t even understand what a Marxist is. They have been dumbed down. Either that or they are having abortions and smoking pot and they have long ago forgotten why that is dangerous. Maybe you have a point, they are choosing socialism. Once a person becomes a socialist it’s like becoming hooked on drugs, it is very difficult to break the addiction. The denial goes very deep. They think they are entitled to be taken care of by the Government.

For me, it’s Barr or stay home. B. McBama would let the terrorists have our country. J. McBama would make our country one that even the terrorists wouldn’t want.

Does anyone still believe in small govermnent and individual liberty? Anyone on Free Republic. Are we a conservative forum, or are we a Republican forum?

I went through the laundry list of socialist programs and policies that the ‘Rats want to implement with a lifelong lib -

she said, “that’s not socialism, socialism is what they had in the Soviet Union, and that’s not what democrats want!”

You?

I have to tell you, I was pretty discouraged this morning until the Mark Levin thread came up. We get him at 8 and only two hours so I miss a lot.

I feel better after listening to him.

Now I’m starting a 9 hour novena for the victory of Sarah Palin. My Our Lord shine on her!!!

I think the media is working overtime to convince itself, and the American people, that Sarah Palin is a backwoods rube who doesn't know nuthin' but huntin', praisin' the Lord, and birthin' babies. They are having a tough time because Palin hasn't really screwed up "big time" in any of her very few interviews. Sure, she hesitated a bit and said, "I'll have to get back to you on that," but that's not as serious as they are trying to make us all believe.

The MSM's job the past few weeks has been to knock Sarah Palin down a few pegs in the voters' eyes so that we will all be looking at her tonight with a microscope as she debates Joe Biden. If she hesitates one second, or stumbles even a wee bit on pronunciation of a name, they will say, "See, America! We warned you. She is not vice presidential material."

Her job as vice president is to wait for the president to die (sorry, it's true) and step into that position in the event that the president does die. Oh sure, she will have some tasks as VP, as they all have had. But tonight we are looking at her to learn her dedication to core beliefs, her values, her stability in a crisis, her ability to understand complicated issues and her decision making skills.

The MSM is using this as an audition, and so are we; but we have to remember what our checklist is, because it's certainly not the same as the MSM's.

They want a misspeak, a mispronunciation, a bitchy comment, anything to replay over and over on their nightly news to take our attention away from the more important issues I mentioned above. We want a strong person, with a strong, conservative value set. If she can pronounce every tin-pot dictators' names with perfect inflection, OK, that's fine; but that's not the determining factor for leadership.

I hope she kicks their asses tonight.

McCain agreeing with Obama on the bail out is the final act for me.

They had no choice. Americans have no idea how bad things really are. If AIG had not gotten that loan the Dow would be at 7500 today. Derivatives forced Congress' hand. If they didn't pass this, we are looking at 10% unemployment. I hate it. I hate Paulson and Goldman Sachs. But the problem is far too big to let the market "burn out".

The Bush Dynasty GOP is a party elite that refuses to fight, because deep down they actually believe liberals are correct. They strive not to win, but to appear “bipartisan” so they can get the “lovable loser” label from the liberal media, just like Bob Dole.

I Don't want to abandon ship. I want the ship to right itself before it capsizes. If you're really working hard for the campaign, can you either:

I ask, because it appears that their strategy does not appear to be working right now.
