Springsteen, Joel to perform NY Obama fundraiser

Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel will perform together at a concert in New York City next month to raise money for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Obama plans to attend the October 16 concert, which was confirmed by his campaign and a publicist for Springsteen. Joel's publicist was not immediately available.

Springsteen announced his support for Obama in April when he posted a message on his website. The musician and songwriter, known as the Boss, said the Illinois senator has "the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience" to be the next U.S. president.

Other celebrity Obama supporters include TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey and actors Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson and Halle Berry.

Proud to say I never bought a Joel or Springsteen record . Before Bruce became famous , he played solo at my alma mater UConn , and was booed off the stage . Why ? He sucked .

I’ve always thought “Born to Run” was overwrought. I’ve never known or met anyone who got that freaked out about anything. It makes me lchuckle. Doesn’t sound like a “regular guy” to me.

You certainly aren’t alone but Joel’s talent is along the lines of Paul Mccartney or ABBA (who I bet you also think have no talent). Great craftsman.

Actually, I have no opinion of ABBA whatsoever. I nothing them. When I see a commercial for the play "Mamma Mia" the sound goes off completely in my head and I wonder why the the people on TV are all dancing around so much. Paul McCartney on the other hand I see as by far the least talented Beatles. And that inludes Pete Best, Julian Lennon, Sean Ono-Lennon, and various species of Dung Beetles. In other words, I'm not a ditty guy.

The funny thing is, most of the attendees for this concert probably aren’t even registered voters. “It’s too much trouble to fill out the form, mannnnnn” (as the pot smoke flows)

What I can I say. The more “pop” music gets, the more I hate it. You’d be suprised how many people agree with me about McCartney. By the time John was dead, the man litterall didn’t have anything LEFT to sell-out. The popular legend that Yoko Ono was responsible for breaking up the band is total BS. Paul was always about selling the absolute number of albums possible, John wasn’t. To this day nobody has ever had a clue shat was going on in the mind of Ringo (including Ringo) and George just wanted to play his guitar.

That's fine. I have spoken to people who really think McCartney would be a nobody without the Beatles. But the stereotype of Paul being the commercial one and John being the Artsy one is mostly false. Most of the innovative aspects of the Beatles records was Paul. The weird production tricks, the song suites, the Sgt Pepper idea, the Abbey Road medley. McCartney was the one who went to hear Stockhausen in Germany and incorporate that into the Beatles records. John didn't like any of that stuff. He wanted straight ahead rock and roll. Look at his solo albums. His musical ambition plummeted.

His ambition plummeted before he left the Beatles. It was the drugs. Yoko was just a symptom. As for Paul's "weird production tricks, song suites," sometimes more is just more. Everysingle thing he ever did with Wings and on his own flat-out sucked.
