The whole bailout thing stinks. It’s like laying in a hospital bed, feeling ok, maybe a touch of flu. Then a group of doctors rush in. In a panic they force a shot on ya, tell you it will save your life. Then they all leave without even discussing what is wrong. You see them through a window discussing things but they won’t just tell you whats up. Then you get a whopping bill as you leave.

24 hours in politics is a lifetime. Our arsenal against BO is extraordinary.

At worst, McCain neutralized an issue that could crushed him and tied him directly to Bush.

If you want to stay home on Election Day, that is your prerogative, but I have 17 year old son and I’d like all Americans to support a commander in chief who will support our military and who has a clue as to the evil prevalent in this world.

Thanks

Read the following disclaimer from the bottom of ACORN’s homepage:

ACORN is a non-profit, non-partisan social justice organization with national headquarters in New York, New Orleans and Washington, D.C. To maintain independence, ACORN does not accept government funding and is not tax exempt.

“non-profit”, “non-partisan”, “justice”, “does not accept government funding”

LOL!LOL!LOL!HaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!!!

I agree that we shouldn’t sacrifice our principles. But as Rush has said, we don’t many conservatives in office. We have to get them there. The way to do it is by get Republicans in office. We just have to get there in the primaries.

This could be or not, but where naked short selling I have problems, an investor has a right to make money by going short on a stock that they feel is being mismanaged as they do on investing in companies to buy. Short selling is not illegal — naked short selling could be. To blame this mess on investors that short a stock is crazy. Blame it on insider trading if anything.

I think we'll be seeing some people go to jail just like what happened with Enron.

Now THAT is what I'm talking ABOUT!!!!

I’m not optimistic either. 0bama is doing everything he can to shut down any dissent to “his” presidency.

We have a paid for house on the hill with well water and two paid for cars. We have a little land and I suppose we can farm if need be. I am terrified of what will happen if the 0 gets in. We are buying a gun or two.

Not good times, that’s for sure. But this bill has to pass, or we’ll be in deeper trouble on Monday.

“Dems won’t be able to be elected again for 20 years if they’re running the show when this all goes down”

Thats not how it works. They will blame it all on Bush & the Republicans. Bush will be the new Hoover. The Dems will be FDR again.

“This bill isn’t guaranteed to accomplish a damn thing. Except put us further in the hole.”

It shifts debt burden from investment banks to tax payers, many of whom are already tapped out. That’s the side of this issue that isn’t being discussed. How many are willing or able to borrow more money even if the credit markets are thawed out?

Conservatives can only count on 3 things from a McCain presidency -

1. aggreesive exeuction of WOT
2. reduction in federal spending and some entitlement reform
3. appointment of strict constructionist and pro-life judges

I agree with #1, mostly agree with #2, and believe that #3 will depend on John's mood on any given day. It remains to be seen, of course, if it'll all be a moot point anyway.

How about the hysteria of a professional economist who suggested that perhaps this "freeze" is nothing more than

a. the people with the power to make it happen and

b. the people with the most to gain from the bailout are

c. holding a gun to the head of the government and the American people.

This was one of 150 economists who wrote an open letter to the president(?) saying to go slow with this bailout. You may be disgusted by "hysteria", but you know no better than these economists what the result of the bailout will be.

My "hysteria" is not so much the bailout. It's going to be a disaster, no matter what happens. It's the corrupt government that is no longer "of, by or for" the people. It needs to go.

Like I said, it's not your average investor.

These may have been concerted efforts to bring down companies.

I'm waiting to see what the AG turns up.

Perhaps an investigation into Paulson is in order as his ties to Goldman Saks is in question now. GS is benefiting the most out of this mess.

You might be right, I don't know yet. This weekend has been a big disappointment for Mac and the republicans generally. All of the good will built up over the last few months has been negated and then some. The arsenal against BO may be extraordinary, but just don't see Mac using much of it. BO will most certainly be up 12-15 points in most polls by the end of the week (perhaps even as much as 20 in a few outliers) and the dems will have regained a turnout advantage due to the massive number of conservatives who have been turned off this weekend. It's doubtful that Mac has it in him to do what is necessary to come back from the debacle. BO has a decisive advantage now.

What if McCain “takes another look” at this bill and votes against it? Then, after an initial spike up in the markets reality sets in and they tank (which is what I expect). Doesn’t that help Mac?

Mac would have been helped, IMHO, if he had gotten Republicans to propose another measure (such as the $35B of insurance proposal) while doing what they did to clean the worse available filth from the $ocialist700B option.

Then, they could have done as above and would have politically won.

Perhaps someoene will yet propose such a thing and it will get enough attention, but I believe it is past maximal time.

Roubini as I hear it says that the stock warrants are basically useless. I would not expect anything else from Paulson and the majority in congress.

You are RIGHT!
That Republican press conf. was a total waste of time. The Dems came out and started the blame game and the Pubs, even with all the ammo they had, did their usual and whimped out! I so angry I could spit!

there is always some trading on federal judgeships, but McCain does have essentially a 100 percent pro-life record. Most people don’t know this.
