The cable news networks are standing by for a press conference by House Republicans on the bailout bill. It should start some time after 6:30 p.m. EDT.

Chuckie wouldn't head home when there are cameras to preen in front of. Besides, the Jewish holidays don't start until Oct. 8th, right? Come to think of it...why the rush to get it done by Monday/Tuesday for the Jewish lawmakers to get home for Yom Kippur if it doesn't start until a week later?

Boehner is so full of it. "We don't want to support this bill, but we'll vote for it." The justification stinks. We don't know if it will work, but it reduces taxpayer risk. And if the bill results in profit, we'll share it with the public.

At any rate, it's a fait accompli. Read the fine print, the bill is not what it's represented to be (bills rarely are).

If McCain doesn't vote against it he's going down with the Republicans. This IS the issue. Nothing else matters.

I don’t agree. Something has to be done before the market opens Monday. The only way we can keep the bill from being a complete piece of crap is to keep the Rs involved.

However, it will be hard to keep the blame from going to the Rs and the credit from going to the Ds. The media will see to that.

I guess they could have gotten on their planes and gone home, but that would have been political suicide too.

There’s no good answer. Congress has to do something or we will be in a world of hurt.
