Are certain conservatives setting Sarah Palin up to fail?
With the recent news that conservative commentator Kathleen Parker has joined the ranks of anti-Palin conservatives George Will, Charles Krauthammer, David Frum and Ross Douthat (as well as moderate-conservative David Brooks), one has to wonder how these folks will respond if McCain and Palin lose to Barack Obama and Joseph Biden on November 4.
Its likely that Parker, Will, Krauthammer, Frum, Douthat and Brooks will attempt to blame Palin for a GOP loss, arguing that she was not ready for prime time and that her supposed lack of knowledge drove away independents. While these commentators all deserve respect for their accomplishments, a potential effort by these commentators to blame Palin for the loss will only cause more divisions on the right.
To various degrees, these commentators have issues with what they perceive to be the glorification of conservative populismand they all seem to view Palin as an embodiment of that populism. In their eyes, Palin seems to symbolize a guns-babies-Jesus vision of conservatism that alienates key voters, especially those influenced by Americas secular culture.
These commentators seemingly would have preferred a Republican like Mitt Romney or Bobby Jindal as the McCains second-in-command: both Romney and Jindal are conservatives whose public images lack culture-war overtones. No one really thinks of conservative populism when they look at Romney and Jindal: Palin, on the other hand, is now seen as the hero of what liberals derisively referred to four years ago as Jesusland.

It’s all part of the NE corridor elite. They show their elitism at some point and boy has this election exposed the rhinos.
These rhinos run in packs and hang out with the big radio talkers on the weekends. The reliable, true blue, conservatives in the media are nearly extinct.
We had our Comal County Fair Parade today. The town shuts down for this parade, which is literally bigger and longer than the 4th of July around here.
We Comal County Republicans and the various Republican Women clubs marched and had a float. We were cheered right and left, all along the route. We got the best cheers - very few jeers - for the little masks of Sarah http://www.buycostumes.com/Sarah-Palin-Paper-Mask/38738/ProductDetail.aspx
I’ve heard over and over how the nomination of Governor Palin has energized the Party. Women tell me that she’s like them, has given them a voice. Those of us who “work” or have our own business and those of us who chose to make our profession our homes and families, all see her fight, as our fight.
The only people who hate Governor Palin wish to mock her religion, her family values, her State, and hate her the most for her choice to have Trig. And they keep forgetting that she is the *Vice-President* candidate!
Sarah Palin is an answer to prayer: a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, and small government leader. Let’s pray that the Lord lead her as she learns to serve our Nation in this larger role.

Query:
Psychologically (NOT politically) speaking: What makes Sarah Palin
such a polarizing figure? How is it that she hooks into people
(especially women) so strongly? Does she show signs of having
borderline personality disorder or narcissistic personality
disorder? Is that why women have such a strong emotional response
to her? I would particularly like to hear from therapists whose
female clients have been discussing Palin in their therapy. Also,
do you have clients who are strong Obama supporters while their
husbands are for McCain Palin? How is that affecting their
marriage? Short emails are fine: I will be conducting phone
interviews.

Otherwise he's not all that bad.
Charles Krauthammer is on record as being against the People’s right to keep and bear arms. Because of that, his credibility is suspect.
ditto
I am totally with you. I am sick of these people, too. Sarah Palin was announced as a VP candidate on Aug. 30...28 days ago! 28 days ago!! She was thrown to the wolves from the get go. Most promotions in a private sector would allow some amount of orientation to the new task. But, NO....all we have had on this woman from the media is griping and growling and criticizing and attacking and demeaning. I don’t know of one of these blowhards that have offered her any welcome or assistance. It is disgusting!! I think she is truly remarkable to have come along as well as she has considering the negatives. I think she is also refreshing as all get out BECAUSE she is not one of those Washington crooks!
COURIC: Why isnt it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?
PALIN: Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy Oh, its got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions.
If McCain wins, this woman will be a 72-year- old heartbeat away from being president of the United States.
Cheers!
This is just payback for Palin having dissed them right out of the box....these guys and their inside the Beltway mindset are as much of a problem to the Amercan people as their socialist cousins across town. Within the Beltway ...their aren’t really two SIDES to the discussion...only variations in the extremeness of the socialism they worship.
I never thought I'd say this but McCain just may be the man that turns the tide... if not... our way of life is over with. We will be more like cuba than America. I do no want to live like that... I fear bad times and revolution are near. I pray that I am wrong but I see nothing to convince me that I am wrong.

Did you read about the new way of making stem cells that look as though no trace of the viral vectors for new genes will persist? http://www.lifeethics.org/www.lifeethics.org/2008/09/induced-pluripotent-stem-cells-without.html These cells, along with last month’s announcement that scientists induced cells to revert in the body, show much more promise than any cells that have been developed from embryos and which would have to be transplanted.
And they would have taken much longer to develop if President Bush had given the green light to paying for embryo destruction.
Most voters are ignorant of the issues, and what each candidate stands for.
Their information comes mostly from TV and newspapers.
It's the "stupid" voters that will put McCain over the top if he does indeed win.
Proof positive that the “Republican” elites still refuse to see this (and every) election as a culture war. Governor Palin doesn’t deserve this. If McCain/Palin lose Sarah can go back to Alaska and watch the lower 48 meltdown. If that happens I can’t think of a better place to be. :)
we have no options....my boycott of Tyson foods did nothing but make me feel better... btw I still do it....
the only recourse is to support those people that deserves our support...our candidates....
money and volunteerism...
I’ve given much, much more than I ususally do....all because of Palin....
“Im disappointed in Krauthammer.”
Why? He’s one of teh media elites and in my opinion he’s not very conservative. Krauthammer is also a shrink so that, in my mind, puts his mental status in question.
“conservative commentator Kathleen Parker”
That phrase is an oxymoron.
Just as it is obvious that Bill Clinton supports the McCain/Obama ticket, it is also obvious that Parker supports Obama/Biden. She’s no conservative, period.
If they try to blame her should McCain lose, it will REALLY damage the party for years, possibly decades to come. I'm fairly certain that Governor Palin could abandon the republican party and take a huge number of voters with her. Her qualifications have been compared to Teddy Roosevelt's. It might be a good idea for her detractors to take a look at what his Bull Moose party did back then... Though he lost, he did cause Wilson to win...

I am too. They have to spew to make themselves feel important.
Rather than talk about their opinions, I choose to not care. Without people reacting these self-important windbags simply become inconsequential. That's what they and their egos can't stand.
Didn’t Rush say awhile back that liberalism is a mental disease? They have no idea what normal is and when they come face to face with normal, (Sarah Palin) the disease manifest itself in fits of raw rage that strikes out in senseless hysterics. If you happen to be in the media and a liberal this disease is completely debilitating and the best course of treatment is locking the suffering patient in a rubber room.
