I think McCain did pretty good. And Obama uttered the words "I was naive." That should make a nice sound bite to show for the next couple of weeks.

Mark Shields said on PBS “Obama held his own” agaist McCain on foreign policy issues. That’s libspeak for ‘Obama looked foolish.’

McCain came off as much more knowledgeable on every subject than the "president of the world."

Obami's team must have told him to pronounce every country and leader as they want it pronounced, eg Pokiston, EERan, etc... in the mistaken impression it will impress Americans. What impresses Americans is someone that knows all the players in the world and has BEEN EVERYWHERE!

I thought McCain was very repetitious with his old stories and talking points he always uses. Puh-leez. He was not sharp on taxes, where he could have moped the floor with Obama, or even on showing how he differed from Bush TODAY on the most pressing issue before this nation. He did not show passion for 3/4 of the debate. Only one or two times did he get on the offense and knock Obama onto his heels and make him stammer.

The rest of the time, Obama was more on point, seemed happier and more confident, got in more jabs on McCain. Obama looked and sounded presidential, which is 100% artifice, of course, but that is how he looked. And appearances matter in debates.

Sadly it seemed Obama pwned McCain in this one. McCain would have needed to hit Obama more on his connections to Marxism, make him defensive about his Fannie and Freddie teammates, and putting politics over the country. McCain could have DOMINATED tonight but did not. McCain’s courageous actions over the past two days should have had him the most confident man in the room. CHANGE has not happened, but COUNTRY FIRST has. I am unhappy because I think independents who don’t know much about the issues would see Obama as the CLEAR winner tonight. Sorry (and I am, very).

I will add that the debate format rocked. One of the best I have seen in my life.

Some early DU analysis:

1. Ugh. Gramps exceeded my expectations. I'll leave it at: he didn't hurt himself.

2. I agree. Sigh. Obama had lots of opportunities and took very few of them.

3. mccain won

4. Unfortunately I have to agree. n/t

5. That was a hard hit Johnny just landed."Obama doesn't have the right judgment." Fair or unfair, right or wrong, that smarted. And as bad as it may have seemed, was well delivered. Obama's chuckle was like a small version of Gore's sigh. Flame if you wish, but that's how I saw it.

That's right and it's how it will be perceived by a HUGE chunk of "middle America." And that is why this election is an uphill battle for us.

6. I'm heartbroken What was wrong with Obama? Pointing out that "John is right"? In a debate? Why, when McPOW pulled that crap about how much he loves veterans, didn't Obama go after him about his voting record on veterans' benefits - how McPOW always voted against them? I'm so disappointed, I could cry.

On second thought he probably was not ready, otherwise Bush would not have been able to push his buttons like that.

I’m glad we got him now though.

McCain was great...

He was very firm and in control of his facts. But most importantly, he projected a presidential air. No one could listen to his "lectures" highlighting Obama's inexperience in realpolitik and doubt which one of the candidates is qualified to act on the world stage. A good night for Mccain.

I hope John McCain’s first executive order as president is to ban T. Boone Pickens from TV for life.

LOL! I'd vote for him just for that :)

I think McCain cleaned up very well tonight. Obviously both camps will claim victory, but the important consideration is the independent voters who I think will largely go to McCain now. He really KO’d Obama several times on key points, ie: talks without preconditions... he really nailed that one and left Obama looking naive. McCain won the election tonight in my opinion.

" Even the liberal commentator on PBS said 0bama is a bit distance."

The female commentator on Fox News said the same thing.

I think McCain not looking over at Obama was three-fold. One not to lose focus, two not to give credence to the bumbling idiot and three to disregard him like an irritating mosquito.

Thank you. I swear it wasn’t until this debate that I really realized just how scary an Obama presidency would be. God help us. I only pray the American people see through his farce and do the right thing.
