John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

"Obama will debate by himself...with teleprompter."

Obama is studying the answers to the wrong test. I will bet the debate questions will have to be changed to include the financial bailout. Screw the foreign policy discussion when your own country is in trouble. Obama will cry foul now that he won't have the correct answers before the debate.

It’s also risky in the sense that this was to be the “Foreign Policy” debate, where McCain has a decided edge.

I agree! Obama will look bad if he doesn’t agree, but is going to be ticked that it wasn’t his idea. He’s going to look like a follower and McCain a leader.

Nice move!

McCain/Palin ‘08.

overly dramatic? it’s only the spot for the leader of the free world, with civilization in the balance against Islamic Extremism...

very smart move.

Well, if Obama does decide to go back to Washington we can expect that whatever they come up with he’ll just raise his hand and say ‘PRESENT’.

I think that no salaries ought to be paid to anyone on capital hill until they resolve this mess and I don’t mean by rubberstamping the 700 billion bail-out.

I totally agree. McCain may not win (I think he will), but he is a magnificent campaigner, given the hand he’s been dealt. I don’t know how he’s doing it.

Obama should debate Biden. They can talk about coal, gun control, the vote on the Iraq war, inappropriate political ads, etc.

now he can remind the Senate and the news that will have to cover it, the fact that he saw this fiasco coming and that the democrat senate refused to heed his advice just like the surge, I think it is a brilliant move

Since AK is one state with a budget that is undercontrol, Sarah can stay on the campaign trail. She can mention that it is only right for the three senators to be back doing their jobs..since the US doesn’t have a budget yet.
McCain is just plain doing the right thing..Barry never was doing anything in the Senate anyway.

McCain is doing the right thing, foreign policy is not on everyone’s mind this week, the economy is. I was thinking if McCain showed at the debate he should demand they talk about the economy. This works too.

The McCain campaign is damn bold, has been throughout.

NEW YORK (AP) — John McCain wants to delay debate with Obama to focus on economic crisis.

Just wait for the left to claim Biden's speech made McCain fearful and that he's just using the crisis to get himself more time to prepare for the debate.

(Let me throw in my own as if Biden's baloney would or that he needs the delay ...)
