John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

"The Wall Street types should be thankful that they are not being carted away to prison pending trial for the crimes that’ve [sic] committed in the financial markets."

What crimes? Who committed the crimes? Who deserves to be carted off? Why aren't they being carted off? To whom should Wall Street types and fat cats be thankful?

“We” weren’t all wrong. The globalists and neocons gave Bush a war chest the likes of which had not been seen up until those days. Now, with benefit of hindsight, I don’t like either of them all that well, but he is the best horse we’ve got, and since the Sarah pick, I’m actually starting to admire ol Mac a little bit again.

For the record, the reason I liked him before was because he was pushing CFR, and when he got it through and I saw what it did to free speech, I soured. But I’m sweetening again, Jerry, I’m sweetening.

People have not grasped that we have a true crisis on our hands. This is not posturing,

Looks like even on here don't yet grasp how serious the situation is.

This is way beyond Republicans and Democrats. Our entire economy is on the verge of collapse if credit dries up.

Why would McCain dodge a debate on his strongest suit? There isn’t a person out there who thinks Obama would win the debate on Iraq and foreign policy in general. This is vintage McCain, doing what needs to be done for the people.

My hope is that Obama doesn’t let McCain get away with promoting the Paulson handout plan. He needs to make McCain feel the pain, just as conservatives held McCain’s feet to the fire over Bush’s equally wrongheaded amnesty bill. We already know that McCain did not listen to conservatives on the amnesty plan. The question is whether McCain is willing to sacrifice his bid for the presidency - in the face of Obama’s attacks - in order to fund an economy-destroying handout to Wall Street. The Paulson handout plan needs to be buried in the ash heap of history.

Why would McCain avoid a Foreign Policy debate? AND McCain has been begging for town hall debates all year, Obama has been running scared.I'm sure they will reschedule after the vote.

You snivelers have got to be working for Hussein.

I think offering up Palin is an excellent choice for McCain who is doing his job. Bring in the second string to wipe the floor with Hussein. Obama is defintely playing checkers and McCain is playing chess. Obama is a certified dork.

McCain is definitely McCain.

The Maverick is running a Maverick campaign. He never goes where you expect him to go.

This guy is a genius. He just broke the negative momentum on economy and is challenging the Messiah wether to choose his country or his candidacy.

Great move. Incredibly intelligent.

Turned on Fox for just a moment and saw the kyron. I got quite anxious until I saw the reasoning behind the suspension. Makes perfect sense to me and looks to be a presidential move.

McCain doesn’t have to get Obama’s agreement to do anything. Leaders make decisions and act. Obama always wants a consensus before he acts. Most people (except hard core Obama supporters) will see this act by McCain as an unselfish move and he will be rewarded at the polls. IMO.

"Not only that, it's a very risky move. IMO the outcome of the Paulson plan has been decided..."

But you don't know that and neither does any other voter.

Comments made in today's hearing by Schumer and Frank, and their body language with respect to Paulson and Bernanke seemed to be saying that a deal has been reached and they are now going through the motions.

Also, don't forget, the Rats control both the Senate and the House. McCain will be walking into a den of vipers with few weapons at his disposal.

But all I'm saying is that it's a risky move. If it works, great, but there's a lot of potential for problems.

Obama's best move would be to not take McCain's bait. For example, he could say that he's been conferring with Pelosi, Frank and Dodd all along and has helped come up with a resolution. He doesn't need a grandstand play because he's been taking care of business from the start. He, the One, can both take care of business and debate.

Just saying -- it's risky.

I disagree, as Rush would say this is “Symbolism over Substance.”

I don't think Rush would say that about this. But if Rush does want credit to dry up in this country, that would be another of his recent (though few) mistakes.

Aren’t you concerned about it’s DUI back in the 80’s?

He apologized. Aren't you concerned that Obama has been implicated in the murder of three teleprompters back in '87?

The economy is coming apart at the seams and the Obama camp decides to have Biden give a FOREIGN POLICY speech today and to also have a FOREIGN POLICY debate on Friday.

Is there any doubt at all where Obama’s priorities lie?

Exactly. It’s the difference between being all talk (Obama) and all walk (McCain).

But then, that’s a recurring theme for this election cycle.

As Palin said (paraphrase), “Some use change to promote their careers, and others use their careers to promote change.”

ABC is reporting that Obama will NOT cancel the debate.

I've PSYCHO analyzed Obama from afar...I knew he would refuse.

He's a stubborn ass. He should have taken the path with least damage to his campaign and that's going to Washington.

To repeat what you said:

Way to go dumb@ss. You just helped make up the minds of the undecided voters who watched one man put his campaign on hold for the good of the country.

It does indeed elevate the crisis even more in the public’s mind.

Yes, Now the Dow is down 80 points. Especially does not help that Bush is speaking this evening.
