John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.
The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Fridays scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen, McCain said.
That would be sweet. Obama would go totally catatonic.
There is NO debate with one person.
Sorry, Obi.
Just yesterday a friend wondered if McCain was going to pull a stunt to avoid the debate. McCain sure looks bad as if running scared.
No one knows for sure how he is going to vote yet. But Drudge just put up on his website that a meeting this AM among House Republicans showed only 4 of them intended to vote for the bailout. Considering Bush will be lucky to get half the Democrats, passage looks more and more doubtful by the minute.
Also, McCain supports several changes to this proposal that the Bush administration is very much against. Among other things, he wants language effectively capping pay at $500K for any executive of a firm that takes advantage of the bailout. Paulson will be lucky to be able to buy up $200 bil. of this stuff under those terms.
Before the 6pm news cycle, Obama will change his position and go along with McCain. No way does Obama want this to be the lead of story on the evening news.
The MSM will play it as BOTH have agreed to suspend their campaign and the debates to return to DC to focus on the crisis.
You heard it here first.
Hannity is reporting a spokesman for Obama told George Stephanolopous (How EVER you spell his last name) that he will NOT cancel the debate for Friday.
Only because it's an election year. The market lost [gasp!] thirty points last week. It's utter nonsense. Is it serious? Of course. And it's a mess caused by politicians, so I'm not too anxious for them to rescue us from their mistakes.
It's a no win for Obama!
The posting history is obvious by now.
Agreed, a perfect move. So, Zer0, your move...
anyone with the name CatOwner is obviously a liberal..LOL
But Hussein is such an IMPRESSIVE speaker!!../s
Not exactly deep thinker over there.
This from the group who couldn't manage a Vice Presidential selection process.
Obama wakes people up at 3:00 a,m, to text them that Biden is the choice........McCain plays it cool until 12 hours after the Obama speech and sucks all of the air out of the Dem. bounce.
Quite the contrast.
Dont like McCain much do you?
Give it 4 to 12 hours and McCain will offer send out Palin to debate in his stead since he is too busy doing his job.
THEN watch Obama cancel. :)
Yes, look for the administration to make sure McCain is the KEY figure in hammering out a solution to this “crisis”.
No, you’re stupid! If Obama/media tries to paint that, THEY look stoop.
You don’t fix a space shuttle while trying to build a car engine.
This “walk and chew gum” at same time line is nonsense and doesn’t apply here.
This financial wreck has the potential to cause a GREAT DEPRESSION.. Do you have any idea what that means? Do you know what soup lines are? Do you know what 25% unemployment is?
THIS IS REAL, NOT JUST ANOTHER POLITICAL ISSUE FILLED WITH BULL$HIT!!
So then what. O shows up and McCain doesnt. Wonder what the next move will be.
YOU FORGET that the MEDIA is going to spin this. Obama doesn’t have to.
