John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

I guess it is a pretty bold move. It may backfire as I first thought, but then again McCain is all in. He may win everything.

I guess he figures he’s playing with house money because no one expected him to win anyway. A man with nothing to lose is very dangerous.

McCain should have invited Obama back to D.C.... and then offered him a map.

I’m sure he knows it’s “present” somewhere in the DC area.

OBAMA campaign saying they called McCain this morning to do this....

claiming they thought of it first

per fox news reporter

They just contradicted themselves according Hannity quoting CNN.

Obama may flip flop again in the next hour tho...as soon as he sees the possible danger of his folly.

So the Obama campaign is saying both that he thought of it first this morning AND that they don't really need to do it? I think Captain McCain just sent a torpedo into the side of the SS Zerobama and the front and back halves are on different teleprompter pages.

A secondary effect is that since Zerobama refused federal election funds, he needs more time to raise money and this could kill 3 to 5 days of fund raising. Boom!

*This is just stupid. It sounds like a 3rd grader claiming credit for someone else’s idea. Of course, Joe Biden has a lot of experience in that area...*

WOO HOO!!!!! He just spoke and was SOoooooooooooo Presidential!!!!!!!”

He sounded like a leader and a patriot. Now the ball is in Obama’s court. He has to follow the leader or whine and complain that it was really his idea first and that McCain is playing politics, blah blah blah. Either way he will look like a smaller man.

Re: Show you’re doing your job. Hussein can continue to do his job, running for president. Let the people decide.

If it wasn’t so wordy, that would make a great sign.

I like this idea. Those two suspend things, while Sarah and Biden do the campaigning. Joe can tell us how President Ulysses S. Grant used to write speeches on his Blackberry during the Civil War.

I think you mean the War of 1812, right after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

Obama says “no reason to postpone debate” McCain should let Sarah stand in for him if Obama wants to go on with it. Checkmate.

Barack Obama talks about bipartisanship and of ending old-style politics, and creates fake presindential seals and white house facades for himself.

McCain leads in time of crisis.

Personally, I wish he would just keep campaigning. If he used his campaign to point out that it was the idiotic policies by the Democrats that caused this whole situation, he could actually do some good.

Despite his warnings about this situation a few years ago, you could put his actual understanding of economics and finance on the head of a pin and still have room left for thousands of angels to dance.

He can help solve the crisis best by staying out of the way and letting people that can actually grasp the subject work on it.

“Btw, Hannity just read a short release from Obama - they say there is no reason to delay Friday’s debate. Putting politics above country it seems.”

So obi says they thought of this first, now they say we dont have too?

No, I'm criticizing the fact that he didn't do this on Monday (or even earlier).

Well, no.... by waiting until today, he has allowed Obama to put himself on record as saying he will not suspend his campaign if there's already a concensus.... Which means, Obama admits that he's not gonna be there to help build the concensus. He's not interested in solutions.

Nope ... just by waiting a couple of days, McCain put Obama on the spot in a big way.
