The Feds would pursue their charges, and Alaska would also have a bite at the apple if its laws allowed it.

OK. Maybe. But it was Palin's private email account, not an official State email account. If somebody hacked my email I'd have a hard time imagining that Pennsylvania would prosecute the case, even in a secondary sense.

Not any technical wizardry at any rate, but if you take mail out of somebody's physical mail box "before it has been delivered to the person to whom it was directed, with design to obstruct the correspondence, or to pry into the business or secrets of another", it's a Federal violation.

But this kid may have a loophole, in that the law does not directly address email, only mail that has passed through entered the Federal Post Office system, e.g., snail mail.

You can start with the federal guidelines to which I referred in post 40.

To wit, simply downloading music is not sufficient to meet the requirements in the criminal statute. You must download over $2500, copy it 10 times or sell it.

Otherwise it's simply a civilly actionable offense.
