'SNL' Palin 'Incest' Skit Angers Viewers Viewers, Bloggers Think Skit Went Over Line
POSTED: 11:30 am EDT September 22, 2008 UPDATED: 12:14 pm EDT September 22, 2008 For the second week in a row, NBC's "Saturday Night Live" has taken to lampooning Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin -- but this time, it has angered conservative viewers over a skit that suggests that the Alaska governor's husband, Todd Palin, was having sex with the couple's daughters.
In the skit, show guest host James Franco plays an assignment editor at the New York Times at the head of an editorial meeting. During a mock assignment meeting where the paper announced that 50 reporters were being sent to look for dirt on Sarah Palin, a Times "reporter" asks, "What about the husband? You know he's doing those daughters. I mean, come on. It's Alaska."
In response, Franco's character said, "He very well could be. Admittedly, there is no evidence of that, but on the other hand, there is no convincing evidence to the contrary. And these are just some of the lingering questions about Gov. Palin."

I watched clips of it yesterday. I took it as a slam on the media that also broached a subject that made me cringe. I only thought about those poor kids who have watched their mom be savaged now dealing with this taboo subject used to elicit a cheap laugh. Maybe my being raised down in the hills has me a little sensitive to "Deliverance Jokes" from our more 'enlightened' city brethren.
WHAT THE HELL is funny about incest and insulting a Vice-Presidential candidate's innocent family?!?!
The Emmys were in conflict with the last game at Yankee Stadium. Same bunch of left wing loons - just different time slot.
Sounds like the wrong people got angry to me.
NOPE, as RUSh accurately said, it's a "clever" way to attack Palin while "claiming" it was an attack on the media.
Thanks I’m already busy with emails .
See? That sounds mighty offensive to me.
Remember, the audience was tittering away at the idea of those rubes in Alaska doing their daughters. That poor white trash up North - always good for a cheap laugh among the young hip NYC audience.
I see it as an attack on Palin masquerading as a critique of the liberal media. Tarring both with a broad brush. As others mention, would this skit have ever seen the light of day if “nutty right wing bloggers” were accusing Obama of raping his daughters?
Uhhmmm..... no.
This is the danger of talk radio pinheads, and those that blindly follow them. Rush needs to get informed or SHUT UP... have people running around screaming about something that obviously incorrect does not do any favors to anyone.
I agree. As disgusting as it is, this is actually a rip on the Media that is tearing her apart!!
Of course the NYT is over the top. But would it have been possible to make fun of the NYT without suggesting that Todd Palin has committed incest with his daughters? I cannot find any humor in this skit.
Rinse, and repeat....
As others mention, would this skit have ever seen the light of day if nutty right wing bloggers were accusing Obama of raping his daughters?
SNL can shove it!!! Mad TV is much funnier.
NBC is totally in the tank for Obama. Their network is not welcome in my home.
I think you make a good point. I still think the skit is an attack on the NYT but it is true that Obama exists as a unique form of communication privilege.
We are not allowed to entertain negative thoughts about Obama— or else we are racists.
That is the tragedy for the nation and even Obama who is increasingly clueless because he is never subject to fair criticism.
The skit did not IMPLY that, in fact it IMPLIED the exact OPPOSITE, but the NYT would print it anyway!!! And that was the whole point of the skit, for pete’s sake, SNL finally takes an honest shot at the MSM and people are too stupid or willingly ignorant to notice, but just knee jerk because some talk radio pinhead who doesn’t know what he’s talking about decided to scream about it.
The entire piece was ripping how the media was willing to publish ANYTHING to attack the Palin’s no matter how ludicrous or how lacking in any supporting facts. That’s what the skit was.
There was nothing over the top about the skit, the only thing over the top, is the level of ignorance one has to engage in, willing, or biologically influence to believe this skit was an attack on the Palin family in any way shape or form.
Uhh it probably wouldn’t have as much impact if they did it to Obama since the NYT didn’t target Obama if ever in that way.
And what exactly went to far? The fact that it pointed out the media was so rediculous that no matter what the claim, and even though they admittedly had no evidence toward it, or that the NYT writers/editors were so egalitarian that they accepted incest must be part of something simply because its a rural state???
The Media and the NYT in particular were completely the target of this skit, and anyone who thinks it was an attack on the Palin’s, is beyond ignorant.
