Exclusive: New Doubts Over Palin's Troopergate Claims
Internal Government Document Contradicts Sarah Palin, Campaign
By JUSTIN ROOD
September 19, 2008
An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin's most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into "Troopergate."
Fighting back against allegations she may have fired her then-Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, for refusing to go along with a personal vendetta, Palin on Monday argued in a legal filing that she fired Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administration's directives.
"The last straw," her lawyer argued, came when he planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to seek federal funds for an aggressive anti-sexual-violence program. The project, expected to cost from $10 million to $20 million a year for five years, would have been the first of its kind in Alaska, which leads the nation in reported forcible rape.

Has anyone else noticed with all the Palin hubbub and the bail out talk, the bombing attemt at the US Embassy in Yemen has basically disappeared from the news cycle.
While abc is out there screwing around with Governor Palin, the real crook, Barack Hussein Obama is on his way to the White House. abc is NOT on America’s side.
If they win this one, Fairness Doctrine is back and so will be their monopoly. They're playing for keeps.
Gee whiz... The guy refused to contain himself to following the instructions of his boss and got fired.
That doesn’t sound like a personal vendetta. It sounds like “he” had a personal vendetta against his boss and he attempted to go around her office and do what he wanted personally.
As for funds for “anti-sexual violence” programs, I don’t see why the Federal government should be giving out money for this. Being a local issue, the program should’ve been funded locally. And I’m curious as to what kind of program costs $10 million dollars. Was it a program with no real value except being essentially free money for the Department of Public Safety to issue themselves raises, hire family members, and buy new toys?
I’ve basically come to the realization that Liberals think it’s illegal to fire anyone....unless you’re Bill Clinton and fire everyone but 2 people.
Oh please, "new doubts" my a**. Maybe at ABC, but no where else.
It amazes me where Dan Rather pops up these days.
In the mean time the terrorist, racist and corrupt Obama relationships go ignored.
We all need to stop referring to this as “Troopergate.”
Call it what it really is, “Tasergate.”
Throw it back at her detractors, don’t let anyone forget what the BIL was doing.
Dan Rather, reporting for CBS. I know that the documents are bogus but will not make that public because it would mean I have to divulge the source. Since that source is me and the DNC, I will stick with my stonewalling and make an A$$ out of myself. Courage.
I would like Bucky to see those documents first. Also, I recall from the news yesterday, Monegan was the police chief in Anchorage, and was fired from that job. Am I correct? Palin is all the rage. Gonna be a dance named for her called “Kickin’ Arse.”
This may seem insignificant. So did the rape kit thing. So did the aerial wolf hunting thing. Both have been mentioned extensively on the air, and done damage with women voters.
He had a “rogue mentality”...exactly...he was part of her administration and did everything he could to undermine her...she had the right, therefore, to fire him. Suddenly, they want us to forget the whole trooper idea because that doesn’t hold water.
He wanted to spend Alaska money that she didn’t want to spend in that way...she was elected, he was not.
It might time for conservatives who happen to hold Disney stock to consider a shareholders suit for the continued devaluing of the company through all this partisan b.s.
If Lindsay Lohan had been using the bathroom at the US Embassy in Yemen when the attack occurred we would have constant 24/7 coverage !
ABC you need to learn the ABCs of credible reporting.
Jeez.... These guys are scum suckers.
Or his Rezko-gate, or his Wright-gate, or Ayres-gate, or the connect-the-dots to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, or any amount of sleazy events that all have Obama in common.
abc supports the Alaskan Good Old Boys Club.
It doesn’t really matter why she fired him. She had the authority, just like the US AG can fire deputy AG’s. However, it does sound like she was fed up with his going behind her back with budget matters, as she says, insubordination. The timing of approval of his travel request and his firing sounds like an unfortunate coincidence.
