Palin Derangement Syndrome: Obama's Worst Enemy?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 9/18/8 | Cinnamon Stillwell

Posted on 09/18/2008 7:38:50 AM PDT by SmithL

There's a new affliction sweeping the nation, and it's known as Palin Derangement Syndrome. The phenomenon is similar to Bush Derangement Syndrome, a term coined by political columnist Charles Krauthammer to describe the personal animosity and irrational hatred directed at President Bush by his leftist opponents. But this time, Republican presidential candidate John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, is the object of wrath.

The feeding frenzy began with the news of Palin's selection, but it was her electrifying speech at the Republic National Convention last month that really set it off. In one fell swoop, Palin managed to energize the Republican base, breathe life into the McCain campaign, launch some very effective jabs at Barack Obama, and quite possibly, attract the support of the 18 million Hillary Clinton voters.

The attacks on Palin have ranged from patronizing to vicious to fantastical. She has been caricatured as an inexperienced rube, a baby-making automaton, an uneducated underachiever, a bad mother, trailer-park trash, a rightwing religious fanatic, a sexual fantasy, and of course, a fascist. No subject has been deemed taboo in the effort to take Palin down.

What her detractors don't seem to realize is that in the process of insulting Palin, they are insulting the majority of the country. If being a self-made success story, a working mother, a church-going member of a small-town community, and a believer in moderate to conservative political viewpoints disqualifies Palin, what does that say about mainstream America? The inherent condescension at the heart of the anti-Palin campaign is coming across loud and clear and it may actually be boosting her popularity.

The sexist tenor of the attacks on Palin is only furthering this process. Some of the worst comments have emanated from self-professed feminists

Is treatment for this covered under Obama’s socialist health care plan?

That would fall under "Brain Transplant".

Yes this could be Obama’s worst nightmare.

Rather than focus on issues, and a respectful debate, we’re going to debate all this nonsense about Sarah Palin? We’re going to have a mudslinging contest instead? Obama says he wants a different type of politics. A politics of hope, yadda, yadda, yadda, but a politics where the issues are the focus, and people disagree without being disagreeable.

So much for that. The panic of a close election is bringing out the worst in the Democrats / liberals / radicals who were pining for an Obama victory.

The Republicans/conservative side are not launching personal attacks against Obama and Biden. If everyone was doing it, maybe Dems. could legitimately have a beef here. But they are the ones with Palin Derangement Syndrome.

Nobody on the right side has Obama Derangement. They just disagree with his politics and want to see McCain defeat Obama due to politics, not due to race or any nonsense. Whereas the left can’t stand Sarah Palin, as she threatens their world view. So, they take a page out of the “Rules For Radicals” book that Obama likes, and launch a personal mudslinging campaign against her to get their way.

So much for a campaign that discusses the difficulties that our nation and the world will face in the next four years.

As was posted last week, many McGovern operatives are saying this is exactly what happened then. The bad behavior of McGovern's supporters really turned off so much of middle America.

He was even more unknown than Palin. Thanks to Reverend wrong and his Community Service, we got to know him.

Ah, irony because he's running against a woman...with a soldier by her side and "God and Country" etched in their hearts.

Simply put, they're MORAL PEOPLE representing ALL THE PEOPLE...the very characteristics that the Founding Fathers said is a MUST, if we were to succeed.

As an aside, I like the way Cinnamon has hyperlinked in the sources in the article. It is almost like the old US News & World Report underlining (that drove me crazy) but this time it actually has a function!

I doubt Hillary wants second place on the ticket. I'd say she has a better than even chance to step in as the candidate, much to my horror. No way she'll let him drag down the country while she gets to share the blame as part of the Obama administration. No, it would be the ultimate irony if Hillary found a way to DQ Obama right off the ballot.

I don't know, but from the few responses I read, this country would be better off if SF (and CA, for that matter) disappeared into the Pacific Ocean.

Both have become nothing more than a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah....

Check the comments at the end of her article. The slavering moonbats could hardly contain themselves in pouring hateful invective into their responses. ..like starving mongrels ripping into a chuck roast.

After seeing her All American family at the convention. All I could say was let em attack her and her family.

They are attacking every family in this country. (not including the deranged mental sex pervert "families" the Dhims spout as equal and better than US)

They realize it alright. The iceberg is Sarah Palin, and they are frantically trying to staunch the leak with the bodies of their moms, sisters, and wives..
