McCain ad slams Obama, Senate Democrats on immigration

New McCain ad blames Obama and Democrats for death of immigration overhaul effort.

(CNN) – John McCain’s campaign is running a Spanish language ad in battleground states that blames Barack Obama and Senate Democrats for the failure of attempts to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws — even though the Republican nominee and his Democratic counterpart cast identical votes in the key Senate showdowns on that issue last year

“Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they?” asks the announcer in the 30-second spot, “Which Side Are They On?”

“The press reports that their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail,” he continues. “The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his Congressional allies ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead.”

Maybe that is a big lesson the RNC needs to learn.

He delivered big by naming Palin and there’s such a thing as overplaying your hand—and giving Obama the White House.
Consummating the relationship is oh so much more fun than dealing with the harsh political realities of a marriage of convenience.

We will be battling McCain constantly for the next 4 years. Lets lay the groundwork for it now while we have some leverage.

I suspect John McCain is at least as worried as we are about getting Obama elected. Why should we blink here. If he wants our support he should at least know not to stick his finger in our eye.

McCain is not going to win CA and has TX in the bag, so I do not see why this ad is even out there.

Look at the Electoral College split for the last two elections. Look at how the EC is splitting right now based on polls (uber-liberal MYSS, er, MYDD.com has a map showing McCain at 270). Understand that with CA, TX, NY locked the smaller elector states like Colorado and New Mexico are going to make the difference again this year.

How so? Ok, so McCain is being consistant with a position he's held all along. Was there every any statement by him that he'd changed his mind?

Again, I'm talking political mechanics, not policy, specifically why McCain is choosing to raise this issue at this time in the manner that he is choosing to use.

Yes there was. Duncan Hunter had a conversation with McCain. If Hunter was going to support McCain, he had to promise to enforce the Security Fence Act. This amnesty in the first 100 days has broken that promise. Therefore, all bets are off for my support. And I’m ensuring that everyone on my contact list knows he has broken that promise.

They would follow the same path the legal immigrants took

Which for a lot of them was accepting the Reagan Amnesty.

I don't think that people have a good understanding that it's the Reagan Amnesty that got us to where we are today with this being an issue that can literally swing an election (assumption that NM, CO and other hispanic-heavy, small elector states are going to be crucial give the closeness of the EC). Many of the illegals who accepted the amnesty are now legal citizens. They've had children, children who are now of voting age and are well aware that their parents first came to this country as illegals. We can't go back 22 years and slap Reagan and his folks around for what was a pretty stupid decision. We have to play the hand we have now been dealt as a result. Yeah, it completely sucks, but there are MANY more issues of importance to me where McCain (ACU 65%) has a record of aligning with my opinion and Obama (ACU 0%) doesn't.

Ok, fair enough. What's Hunter's opinion on McCain's change in direction?

“personal insults”

You tell `em, AuntB!

“Bigot” (or: racist, stupid, a$$whole... etc. etc.): `Anyone beating an open borders lunatic in argument....’, (Ann C., paraphrased)

All Juan would have to do is say, “I approve the GOP platform on illegal immigration.” but he hasn’t done that, or will not do that and we know why.
As soon as he is elected he follow his habit and start thumbing conservatives in the eye again on this issue.
And it would be tough for the engineer of the `Straight Talk Express’ to do what he wants to do if he promises now to respect a clear majority of American public opinion: enforce US immigration law and defend our borders.

Regarding, “Let’s just ignore all this unpleasantness, get him elected and deal with it in 2009...”.
see above, rinse, repeat.

I don’t know what the fuss is all about. McCain didn’t need our vote to win the primary. So, apparently he doesn’t need our vote now.

Same exact balderdash we heard in 2004. There are many saying this and that they will be there to help defeat amnesty when McCain starts it again. I’m going to keep track and make sure they do.

“Grunter... I see...”

Thank you for that....(poignant?) response, it’s everything that we’ve come to expect from one of your....singular intellect.

Let me give you some advice. When making a lame attempt to insult someone's intelligence, don't use poor, mangled grammar. It makes you look ignorant.

Like the fricken illegals and 'Latinos' are going to vote for McC.....And where is Juan Hernandez hiding? Which rock is that traitor under?

Latinos already have their "victory speech" written....no matter who wins----they will claim total victory over the presumptive winner.

Called "the one foot in each camp---screw democracy" strategy.

And even if 5 latinos vote for McC, Hernandez will take credit-----and be scrounging for a federal job, one that jumpstarts the massive transfer of US wealth to Third World hellholes.

McCain spoke to National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.

We need to determine if this group is in collusion with foreign governments and if they are being subsidized with foreign money. if so they shoyuld be labeled "enemies of the US."

As Juan Hernandez told Cong Tancredo: "By Mexico populating the US with millions of Hispanics tied economically, politically and linguistically to Mexico, our government is able to exert enormous influence and pressure on US policy and its dealings with Mexico."

Translated from the Spanish: "We gonna loot your treasury for billions by blackmailing you with illegals' votes."

Get ready for a massive transfer of US wealth to greedy federales in these Third World hellholes.

The sap-happy whining about "hopeless people" looking for a "better life" here is nonsense. Hernandez and other Third World gov't agents have infiltrated the US political system for ONE REASON: to effect a massive transfer of US wealth. Third World federales are salivating at the thought.

“When making a lame attempt to insult someone’s intelligence”

Why, I would never presume to do such a thing. Unlike others that I’ve seen. Even on this very thread.

Wouldn’t that include our candidates for POTUS?

No worries for me. I have donated generously post-Palin and will enthusiastically vote for McCain/Palin unless he starts the amnesty talk again. Then I will hold my nose and vote for him hoping we can straighten him out again but angry he did not get the message the first time.

It’s not wise for McCain to bring up this issue. It is the foremost issue he can alienate his base and independents with. I don’t understand why so many of us see that and he does not.

Lest we forget, he almost killed his candidacy on this subject once before.
