The most interesting thing is that *none* of the interviewees/rescuees that I’ve seen blame anyone other than themselves for staying. No self pity, no people whining about how the government should have saved them. Not much shock either.
Crystal Beach is *gone* per rescuees. One man commented that along with it went his family’s way of life - but he didn’t seem in shock or too phased by it. More of a sad resignation and some determination to pick up and move on.
Gotta love Texas.

KHOU/TXCN reporting that the Seawall was unbreached, but it has been damaged with some chunks of concrete missing in places.
There’s also a story circulating that the monument to the 1900 storm, the “despairing man woman and child rising out of the surf” monument is just *gone*.
Jim Cantore reported the monument lost some of the granite around it’s base, it’s across the street, but did not even lose a fingernail from the monument itself.
Yeah! Isn’t it GREAT to hear people blaming themselves for staying instead of someone else! So refreshing.
Of probably 50 interviewed, only one person, an elderly lady, mentioned the government or the mayor or anybody else for their decision to stay!
I was thinking last night about what I’d do in that situation; what I would take that I considered irreplaceable and leave. Things are not worth risking my life over.
I would take family mementos. There’s lots of stuff I’d like to take that I use all the time, but it’s not irreplaceable, they’re just favorite things.
Every time I see something like this, I vow NOT to complain about the snow this winter. I suspect we’re looking at a bad winter as far as snow and likely cold, and snow can cause roof collapses if you don’t shovel them off. Ice storms can bring down lots of trees and do damage enough and put us without power for days to a week or so, but nothing compared to the devastation that a hurricane or tornado causes.
NYS does have its up side. Our weather is more along the nuisance level. Hurricanes and tornadoes, (and earthquakes) are more than that.
