The eyewall of Hurricane Ike crossed Galveston Island in the early hours of Saturday morning. Reports indicate as many as 20,000 residents of Galveston Island chose not to evacuate as storm surge engulfed the island. The Freeport Chief of Police reported as many as 2000 residents did not evacuate as flood waters swamped coastal communities. There are widespread reports of power outages and coastal flooding throughout the Texas/Louisiana region. The U.S. Coast Guard received hundreds of calls Friday afternoon to rescue people stranded by flood waters along the barrier islands and Galveston Bay communities.
Multiple fires broke out in the Greater Houston area fueled by strong winds. Fire fighting efforts were hampered by flood waters. Brennan's Restaurant, a landmark in Houston, burned to the ground. A 584-foot freighter crippled in the Gulf of Mexico and its crew of 22 survived the storm after The U.S. Coast Guard was forced to abort rescue efforts Friday afternoon due to foul weather
Gulf Coast wholesale gasoline prices jumped to nearly $5 a gallon over fears that water and wind damage could keep the facilities closed for days or longer. Oil companies had shut down 97.5 percent of production in the Gulf of Mexico by Friday morning and were battening down refineries and petrochemical plants in an area that accounts for one-fifth of U.S. refining capacity.
Exxon Mobil reported evacuating workers from its Gulf Coast offshore platforms and onshore facilities in the anticipated path of Ike, shutting down daily production of about 36,000 barrels of oil and 270 million cubic feet of gas..

So is Hannity. And what’s her-name, the skinny chick.

Sorry, FEMA cards are only allowed at the Gucci Store, the casino, the gentlemens’ clubs and the liquor store. I don’t think you’ll find a chain saw at any of those :-)
“His band played at the first freeper ball, so yeah, I guess he freeps”
Well, you learn something new everyday and today I have learned so much (proper ways to spend FEMA cards, Huckabee is a freeper, blowing up trees could or could not be better than cutting them down, and I still think Alan Colmes is the biggest joke and pansy around) My knowledge increaseth with every post. ;0)
Hang on now - I will happily sell you a chain saw for a whole pile og liquer, and a fema card.
Oh yes, add those to the list. I forgot them in my list.
“School of hard knocks, thats what
hes in now ..”
Oh I really abused him today by making him pick up limbs and shingles in the back yard. I told my husband he was turning into a liberal. Always wanting food and stuff, whining a lot, and not willing to work for a thing.
Now that most of you Texans are back online, I want to tell y’all how much I miss Flyer. He was such a joy to have on the hurricane threads. His posts were like a nice hot cup of coffee in the pre-dawn hours when he would check in daily—always with a smile in his words. He would race to post the first comment on the new threads (ok—he hardly ever succeeded). Anyway, I’ve been thinking about him over the past several days, and wanted to share that with you. God bless Flyer.
All I wanna know is how to see the northern lights. That’s at the top of my have-to-see list. I just can’t figure out how to see them without freezing my hiney off.
We’re pickin’ on ya cause we’re giddy with delight over the nice weather.
Really good ariel shots of the Texas coast from Ike, 299 pics w/ nice detail of the devastated coastline of Boliver. Easier to look at then google or NOAA sat pics.

Now I’m sad. Duncan Hunter was my absolute favorite for the Republican nominee. I was so disappointed when he dropped out :-(
After Sarah came on board, my sadness lifted ......... :-)))
Those two would have been an awesome team too.
You be nice about her... I’m warning you!
Is he talking about Saint Ann??
It’ll be great for him. Stay tough, Mom.
You’ll be very happy you were when he’s 16.
I don’t know... wouldn’t putting Hunter together with Sarah be kind of like putting lipstick on... um... Marilyn Monroe? Completely unnecessary.
I think you speak for all of us.
Very sad scenes ... accurate and comprehensive coverage.
She’s speaking from today now .. CSPAN-2.
NN, now, now, now. Don't be silly...You, being hurricane savvy, and all, should know FEMA cards are for GUCCI & Vuitton!
I agree. During Rita, Flyer offered to call and wake me if overly bad news was headed my way.
Great guy, I miss him.
