Stock brokers will know exactly what I mean when they see the word "bubble" attached to the name Sarah Palin.
The Republican Party is riding quite the high.
In fact, if I were a pollster wanting to deliver good news to a Republican client, this would be the week Id want to put the poll in the field.
Here's a good rule of thumb for the next few days: If a Republican candidate isn't in the lead in a survey conducted right now, he or she cant win in November.
The combination of an excited Republican base and a depressed Democratic one has created for the first time in nearly four years the appearance of an environment where the GOP can win.
Burst her balloon? But big questions remain: Is this Palin bubble going to burst, and if so, when?
And if it does burst, will it be a full-fledged bust?
Will the collapse be reminiscent of famous internet bubble stock drops like DrKoop.com and Pets.com? Or will there be a soft landing, like with AOL and Amazon?
I hesitate to speculate too much right now because I believe this political environment is artificial. And it wont last.
Still, it's clear Palin has dramatically changed the dynamics of this race. With the election just over 50 days away, things could change very quickly.
That being said, Palin has energized the Republican base and that enthusiasm will last through Election Day.
Energy means...
It would take a massive slip-up by Palin to depress the GOP at this point. And this Republican energy means a few things:
Some of the traditionally Republican-leaning battleground states (like North Carolina, Missouri, and possibly even Florida and Indiana) which weren't leaning McCain thus far are looking like McCain-leaning states again.

We already know what NBC's politics are.
Hey Chuck go f yourself.
It is a concerted campaign on the part of the MSM to drag this woman and her family through the mud. We're just seeing the tip of the iceberg.
I agree, they know the damage she has done to Obama’s campaign. They are all rattled. The more they react in an way that has little to do with intellect and more to do with raw emotion, the better it for McCain/Palin.
The media cannot help it....they have lost all self control.
Funny, they never once had this thought about The Obamessiah.
Chuck is IN TROUBLE - his article was actually somewhat objective with some real facts.
Massa Keith gwyne kick yo behind, son.
Your Boy Bi-den: “SHUT UP CHUCK”
14 days you Media types have engaged in the worst sort of relentless demagoguery and hysteric personal attacks and Palin’s approval numbers have only gone UP!
Sorry bubble boy but the ONLY people living in an artificial world are you clown posse of “reporters” with your illusion that any of the hysteric garbage you pump out daily is of even the slightest relevance to the lives of 70% of average Americans.
40 million people listened to Palin’s speech MSNBC, while in your entire history as a network 40 million people haven't watched a single item you all pump out. The ONLY thing artificial here is MSNBC bombastic notions of their importance to the world outside their wako left wing fringe audience.
“Here’s a good rule of thumb for the next few days: If a Republican candidate isn’t in the lead in a survey conducted right now, he or she cant win in November.”
What is this idiot talking about? Isn’t it the other way around?
Is he talking about Obama or Palin?
This really sounds like an internal memo trying to convince the employees that things might be bad, but hang on... we usually beat the other team anyway.
She's a righteous, all American bulldog wearing lipstick, she doesn't waver, and when she bites, as Charlie Gibson found out, she never, ever misses.
WOOF!

It appears to me that Chuck Todd plagiarized the “bubble popping” concept from U.S. News & World Report (Capitol Commerce blog) and reversed the players.
The Obama bubble burst because there was nothing solid inside.
Sarah Palin doesn’t have that problem.
