Large and dangerous Hurricane Ike approaching the Upper Texas coast. Mandatory evacuations began in earnest Thursday as an estimated one million coastal residents headed inland. There were widespread reports of gas stations running out of fuel.
The National Weather Service posted dire storm surge predictions of 20-25 ft storm surge along the coast and bay heads. Hurricane warnings covered a 400 mile swath of the Gulf of Mexico.
Wholesale gasoline prices spiked 30 percent Thursday, or nearly $1 a gallon, out of fear of what Ike might do.

Surge At Galveston Pier is now over 12 feet, folks...
12.18 ft at 0006AM local!!
Checking in from northern ft bend county. We lost power around 8;30 this evening lots of rough wind but rsin just started around midnight
OK, on Fox it looks like Geraldo is about to get blown out to sea and the guy (John Gibson?) is still just calmly reading viewer email questions to him.
Me, too. I shouldn't laugh, but I can't help it.
I have to say, Geraldo is good for a laugh!! If he just knew how stupid he looks, especially when you check all the other news channels,!online especially)! He likes to dramatize things a whole lot more than they are, and it makes FOX News look bad!! Funny though!!
Gotta protect the midget from the looters?
Please somebody get Jerry on those fronds. It’s a keeper.
Well channel two lost power a few minute ago. Then a couple of minutes later channel ll either had a power interruption or lost power. The TV stations have generators so they keep broadcasting. That is good.
Local Fox Station is saying a TWO-Alarm fire in Downtown Houston. No further info...
galveston mayor is a nut job.
Is there any word from la porte anyone? I am really nervous about my home and neighbors
fake producers’ conversation:
“when rick’s done, go to jerry?”
“nah let’s go to steve. let jerry sit out there awhile longer.”
“steve’s not set up.”
“go to the board & get an update at the map.”
[jerry hugs the palm tree some more]
I agree. That kind of creeped me out. Maybe he wants his job? (though I don't think anyone could replace Geraldo)
Welcome back. We have yet to loose power, but this wind is a bear.
We are headed to bed to try and catch a nap. We will check in in the a.m.
Stay safe
I know! That just makes it even funnier...Could they have found anyone more of a polar opposite of Geraldo? Especially Geraldo in “hurricane mode”?? LOL
I had flipped to MSNBC b/c I was tired of the other stations and happened to see that dude get blown into the hedge building and he was far more “into” what was going on with the reporter! Such a contrast from Gibson. Wonder how he wound up paired with Rivers. LOL
Good One!! LOL
I don’t see Geraldo on the live feed now?
Well he has it in his blood or he wants a daily night time prime spot on Fox.:)You chased them.
I’m right there with you. Hopefully, this time next year we will be living in Arizona.
[nothin’ wrong with liking the Speedwagon!]
