McCain Blows It - Defends Obama's Community Organizer Record (Goes After The Moderate Vote Alert)
Michelle Malkin.com ^ | 9/11/2008 | Michelle Malkin

You know, I was going to call it a night. And then I saw the story about John McCain’s appearance at the 9/11 Columbia University forum earlier this evening.

Every time you grit your teeth and defend this guy, he pulls something like this. Hey, Maverick: Way to throw Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani, and your strategists who had the sense to seize on Obama’s abysmal, ineffectual record as a Chicago rabble-rouser under the bus!

Criiiiiikey:

Barack Obama and John McCain attempted to set their differences aside Thursday night, if only for a moment, as they encouraged Americans to volunteer in their community and military at a forum on national service.

Few sparks flew at the Columbia University event, hosted by ServiceNation. The candidates — who were interviewed separately — were encouraged to keep campaign politics to a minimum, out of respect for victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.

In that spirit, McCain at one point softened the language used by his running mate last week at the Republican National Convention, where she mocked Obama’s early days as a community organizer.

“Governor Palin was responding to the criticism of her inexperience, her job as a mayor in a small town,” McCain explained. “Of course I respect community organizers. Of course I respect people who’ve served their communities, and Senator Obama’s record there is outstanding.”

“Outstanding?”

Are you kidding me? Does McCain need talking points on the government-subsidized fraud machine that is ACORN? Here are the ACORN Watch archives: Print and read.

Does McCain even know about the Annenberg Challenge disaster? Someone set up a briefing for him with Stanley Kurtz, stat! Is he even aware of Obama’s own disavowal of his failed community organizer efforts?

McCain has just taken one of his own campaign’s most effective lines of attack against his opponent’s feckless, far Left past and tossed it away — like the rose Obama flung in the water.

What’s next? Will McCain attack those who mock Obama’s “outstanding” community organizer record as racist, too?

Banging. Head. Against. Wall.

***

Hey, let’s put some salt in the wound: A cabinet position for Obama to boot!

Maybe he’ll be named Secretary of the Soros Slush Fund.

that’s not his job. McCain is supposed to be presidential and congratulated Obama on his convention speech. Obama then looks really bad and ungracious when he attacks mcCain’s temperament during that speech.

It’s the same thing here. obama will look like the little jerk that he is when he attacks mccain.

McCain rises above it all, has gravitas, acts presidential.

That is the plan. Palin and GOP surrogates will be the ones who go after Obama. McCain will play statesman.

Personally, I think it is the right strategy.

I'm no fan of McCains efforts to further national service, which he's playing to when praising Obama’s efforts.

McCain didn’t let his pride and ego talk for him like Obama did.

McCain was gracious, while Obama wasn’t.

Contrast the two reactions when each was asked if the other had a place in their administration.

That says it all.

For some reason, I haven’t been paying attention to what was going on with these forums and debates. Can anybody tell me, is this what we’re going to get instead of debates? Tonight’s forum was not only worthless, it was totally boring. I’m not really sure “national service” is very high on the list of American priorities right now.

Dudes, lets face it: None of us are enthusiastic about McCain.

He’s our Trojan Horse for future President Palin. Let’s try to comfort ourselves with that thought and hold our noses at the ballot box. It’s PALIN-mccain. Keep that thought.

Does the phrase drama queen REALLY need to be used? Sheesh.

Under the bus, Michelle? Please. The hyperbole is getting just a bit thick there.

In no way, shape, or form did anyone go under the bus. In fact he said specifically “It’s a tough campaign” - which if anything I see as a tacit endorsement of that view.

Michele’s ok. She’s on the right side. However, you gotta give McCain some slack (on this day at least). Don’t forget, he’s the one that has okd the constant 14 day carpet-bombing attacks on Nobama, so I’m not going to start second-guessing him or knee-jerk criticising him on one comment, today of all days.

I'm miffed at McDumb because he didn't have to praise Obama! He could have just kept the comments general. That would have been sufficient.

Speaking of Obama’s feet, think he’ll be wanting one of those special footwashing basins in the Oval Office?

He (McCain) was just being nice. I heard it. Didn’t care for the whole forum. Anytime a bunch of rich elitists get together to talk about public service as if it is some kind of strange beast that people don’t do enough of I want to puke. Why is it with the left that they think that things that most people just do on their own must be turned into some kind of cause reinforced by government. Most don’t quantify it when they help a neighbor in need or rally to the cause of those caught up in a disaster. Does public service have to be some kind of guilt trip where liberal elitists can point their finger at people and say scoldingly “You aren’t doing enough”.

Well screw the self important lot of them. We don’t need government to encourage public service. We have churches and community organizations.

What’s a “community organizer”? I mean, other than the Alinsky definition?

McCain so much better then Marxist Barry goldstategop. Remember he gave us Sarah. She is our future and she is a Reagan conservative. He is a maverick. With John there will be ones we lose and ones we win, but he will nominate conservative judges, and he will defend our nation with strength. These are just a few points. He is also pro life and will not get rid of Bush's tax cuts.

Compare him to Marxist, friends with terrorists Barry and you will be reminded once again of why we are going to blow these nasty lefties back come November 4 and maybe too this will impact the GOP candidates for other offices.

McCain's fighters will come out and fight. The damage has already been done to Barry at the RNC regarding his community organizing experience that is suppose to make him qualified for the presidency.

Oh let's just relax. McCain is reveling in staying "above it all". Meanwhile his ads are beating Obama's brains out, and Obama has Palin-on-the-brain and every day is lowering his "Presidential" stature to attack her. McCain hasn't said a single word about Biden, and he never will.

John knows damn well the RATs are in total disarray, and he is just using psych ops to mess with them even more, and confuse the media. He and Cindy were laughing about this line the whole way back to the airport.

She's got ads to sell. JimRob doesn't.

McCain is running a perfect campaign, tonight included. Let the children act like children and let McCain act like the President of the United States.

There is NOTHING wrong about Obama being a community organizer.

Obama achieved very little in his 3 years as a community organizer.

3 years to organize two meetings. One was a meeting to remove asbestos from a building and the second meeting was to open up a summer job training center.
