All Beliefs Welcome, Unless They are Forced on Others [Lefty Prof says Palin not a Woman]
Washington Post Blog ^ | 9/9/2008 | Wendy Doniger

Posted on 09/11/2008 1:28:05 PM PDT by Unam Sanctam

Belief in god, like getting pregnant, is a private matter between consenting adults (or one consenting adult and one or more deities) and is no one else's business. I am on record in this blog (and have not budged an inch) as not objecting to any candidate's religious views.

But I object strongly when anyone (and especially anyone with political power) tries to take their theology out in public, to inflict those private religious (or sexual) views on other people. In both sex and religion (which combine in the debates about abortion), Sarah Palin's views make me fear that the Republican party has finally lost its mind.

As for sex, the hypocrisy of her outing her pregnant daughter in front of millions of people, hard on the heels of her concealing her own pregnancy (her faith in abstinence applying, apparently, only to non-Palins), is nicely balanced by her hypocrisy in gushing with loving support of her teenage daughter after using a line-item veto to cut funding for a transitional home for teenage mothers in Alaska.

Her greatest hypocrisy is in her pretense that she is a woman. The Republican party's cynical calculation that because she has a womb and makes lots and lots of babies (and drives them to school! wow!) she speaks for the women of America, and will capture their hearts and their votes, has driven thousands of real women to take to their computers in outrage. She does not speak for women; she has no sympathy for the problems of other women, particularly working class women.

FTA: "Palin is not a Woman."

You wrote: "people who write evil.. stupid.. things such as this should be..are probably.. stoned."

Fixed it for ya. Stoned people often get real confused about "women," "men," "reality in general."

Well it's certainly a good thing that evolution and secular concepts of "social justice" don't count as "religion," isn't it?

They have cleverly gotten the courts to declare Secular Humanism IS a religion for free exercise purposes, but NOT a religion for establishment purposes.

Also, there is a reason for banning any and all Christian expression from public view - it bothers their consciences. They know in their being that there is an absolute right and wrong, that they are in violation of it, and don’t want to be reminded, because “getting right” would involve too much humility.

The leftists elites are as out of touch with mainstream America as the French aristocracy of the 1790’s was with the peasants.

No one can impose their religion on another - unless it’s Radical Islam. The funny thing is that this “intellectual” doesn’t see any hypocrisy.

You reactionary white male! How DARE you criticize someone else's culture???!!! [/sarcasm]

And she’s actually being dishonest.

What she means is that “all beliefs are welcome, as long as you don’t think your belief is exclusively true”.

I am so tired of hearing this lame argument.

The only "religion" that is forced on people is that of leftwing secularists, in the form of climate worship, mandatory sex "education" in schools, taxpayer funded abortion, the wholesale removal of any and all Christian expression from public view, banning self-defense.... Remind me again -- who is forcing whose beliefs on whom?!?!

I only wish I had said it as plainly as you have!

Where do these liberals get the idea that they never "force" anything on anyone else??? It's all they do! But I suppose as long as it isn't G-d you're forcing, it's all right.

Why are they so threatened by Palin’s Christianity?
Don’t Obama & Biden claim to be Christians too?

Why are they so threatened by Palin’s Christianity?

The example that Palin shows convicts them in their beliefs and actions. They know she's right, and that they're wrong, and prefer not to be reminded. 0bama has a "whatever works for you" perverted view of Christianity, so he's no threat as an example. He makes them comfortable in their sin.

What I see in this is the new and modern “National Socialism”. I was telling my wife I can for the first time really sense the we might be close to the end times. I know I may catch flack for saying so, but unless there is another Great Awakening in our country I fail to see how we can indefinitely hold off the relativist and self centered religion of the left.

I had really given up on this country but the emergence of Gov Palin and her "perfectly beautiful baby boy" is like God giving us one last shot - one last chance to rally around what is right and strengthen ourselves before the SHTF. In the next few years, the sheep and the goats are going to really become evident.

“Please, have this lady trot over to the Representative from Tennessee (I think it was) who compared Pilate to “governers” and Obama to Jesus, and express her rage at him for bringing religion, a private matter, onto the House floor!”

That would be Steve Cohen. He holds Harold Ford JR.’s former congressional seat. He’s done everything he can to pander to his black constituents leading up to the general election. Problem for him now is he just lost every white christian in that district. It would be funny to see that gerrymandered district go Republican
