At a Friars Club roast of Hugh Hefner three weeks after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, comedian Gilbert Gottfried not only pushed the envelope, he set it on fire. He was at the podium, about to launch into the abundantly filthy Aristocrats joke that inspired an entire documentary film, when he mentioned that he had tried to get a direct flight but they said they have to stop at the Empire State Building first.

strange that they would feel compelled to run this. Maybe its their way of getting closure.

I think it would always be too soon.
I wouldn’t laugh at a joke about Pearl Harbor.

Is it still too soon for jokes about Sept. 11?They are as appropriate as they ever will be.

The day it becomes acceptable to make jokes about 9/11/01 will be the saddest day of my life, if it indeed happens within my lifetime.
I don’t hear Pearl Harbor jokes, and it’s still too early for War of 1812 jokes. Nobody’s busting a gut laughing about Fort Sumter.

It's always going to be too soon. The reason the Left wants to joke about 9/11 is for one reason only: to diffuse the patriotism it provokes on both sides of the aisle. If they can make us laugh, it loses its ability to unite us against our enemy.

Never. It’d be like joking about the Holocaust.

It’s the way that some people — particularly NYers — deal with tragedy.

Its the way that some people particularly NYers deal with tragedy. Like having giggle fits a funeral.

..or telling funny stories about the deceased.
Look, there are many, many people in NYC still suffering the effects of 9/11. This is not a widely-reported story. Some of them self-medicate via liquor or drugs. Some of them have become shut-ins. I personally know hardened NYers who now wince at sirens.
Many NYers are also reminded of 9/11 on a daily basis via added security measures in subways, Wall St. and transportation hubs.

There’s never a bad time to make jokes about PMSNBC.
To: Tulsa Ramjet
Just like it will never be ok to joke about the attack on Pearl Harbor, it will never be ok to joke about 911.

Is it too early for jokes about Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, or the Battle of Gettysburg? What makes anyone think this is a funny subject? They must be members of the Bill Maher school of humor.

.................Many NYers are also reminded of 9/11 on a daily basis via added security measures in subways, Wall St. and transportation hubs. And remembering their friends and loved ones horrible last moments and ultimate death. It will always be obscene to tell jokes about 911.

MSNBC employs Olbermann, and he’s a joke, so I guess they think it’s OK.
