Texas began issuing mandatory and voluntary evacuations as Hurricane Ike continued to strengthen and slowly moved toward an uncertain landfall destination in the western Gulf of Mexico. Texas Governor Rick Perry issued a disaster declaration in advance of the storm. Louisiana Governor Jindal released several hundred buses to Texas for evacuation assistance.
Reports from Cuba indicate widespread damage from Hurricane Ike, which raked the length of the island nation. The U.S. State Department again offered Cuba humanitarian assistance after a previous offer was declined by the Cuban government.
The stock market Wednesday rose as investors bought oil stocks and and oill futures fell.

What is the original source location of the model graphic? There is a link to forecast models at the top of this thread that provides run times for each of the models.
Did you notice that the GFDL model wants to bring it back up to hurricane strength in Lake Huron? ... I’m glad NHC doesn’t believe that one!
KHOU (channel 11), had some interesting models on the storm surge. I think they were provided by an insurance agency, but I cant remember the name just at the moment.
One meteorologist was showing what happened in the various surges if he moved the storm track right or left. It was fascinating, and scary.
There’s going to be serious damage, I hope that the people who decided to stay in the Galveston area come through in one piece.
I will just add everyone to my prayers and I think I have enough of Ike tonight. There’s more to do tomorrow. Break time.
Be well.
My daughter just called from Lubbock - they are having some weird storm out there and have gotten more than 5 inches of rain today! In that flat prairie land out there everything floods with this amount of rain!
Need ya to move that storm track to somewhere other than Houston as I washed my Jeep today.
Thanks in advance!
I spend a lot of time talking to the tv myself! For one thing, (and I know most here will disagree with me, maybe it’s the school teacher in me) but I simply detest when the word ain’t is thrown out there, especially in things like news shows. I know it’s used to sound hip, but.... it’s sounds so forced when someone like Neil Cavuto is saying ain’t! ;)

That’s from the late Lorenzo, an Eastern Pac system.
Seeing that this is the last evening when evacuation is still possible don’t you think this should be in breaking news. Also Oklahoma and Arkansas are now within 48 hours of being in the cat 1 zone, shouldn’t they be added to topics.
Where is that GOM Oil Rig Map that shows the oil rigs as yellow dots on it?
Me, Ashton Place, a townhouse in the 6900 block of Weis in those days. Built like the proverbial masonry outdoor facility. The motel I mention was originally a Holiday Inn, it has been about twenty different names since. Just below the dog track on the west side of 45. It had not been open for much more than a week when Alicia hit. DPS and NG found us (all who had stayed there) with fresh hot coffee, and cold cuts for breakfast in the lobby, thanks to management about 8AM after Alicia. They (DPS/NG) decided it would be a great place for their "command post". With that, many of us "residents for the night" used our "camaraderie" with DPS to beat the traffic back onto the island that afternoon. If you are still on the island, best of luck 3M. Again, my prayers for Bolivar and the Golden Triangle, but I really hope this thing goes north at the last moment. For the country as a whole, TC and HSC does not need a direct hit.
Over here, babe!
Okay, stand down, y’all. Emergency averted and sirens off. My pot roast turned out AWESOME.
So what were y’all saying about a storm or something?
I can’t imagine that will work very well. I think it’s better to live in a place where you get them all the time. I wonder how many in Houston have hurricane shutters?

Now, see, Xena’s Guy was just complaining about the utter dearth of crying baby-brandishing Geraldo in this storm.
So I reminded him that it’s early yet and we have SCADS of time for all that.
It's ARMAGEDDON!
What the rain does not wet, the wind will blow and nothing shall remain!
Woe unto us all!
Viper night ride tomorrow?
Nice link. Thanks.
