I just came from the local hamburger place and a girl from the sugar land airport was buying a big box of burgers to take back. she says they now expect the storm to come in just east of galveston bay. hope she knows.

That old saying...Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

Same here...pretty much everyone I know around Beaumont-Port Arthur is staying, and Houston too. Friend of mine going to Rice will be riding out his first hurricane on campus, where they’re sheltering a lot of the students...

We live in Nederland, fairly close to Port Arthur, and now local KFDM-6 is trying to scare everybody out by threatening the Port Arthur levee is going to overtop or break and bring Cat 3 type surges due to the sheer size of the storm. I think this is overboard prediction wise, though my parents are getting really nervous.

Best case will be that it doesn’t strengthen at all, no matter it ends up. We can handle the wind, we got through Rita and now have a super new roof so that part is okay - it’s just the water.

I guess Galveston will be flooded with CNN, FOX, and PMSNBC come tomorrow - we’re making predictions on where Geraldo will be screeching from this time. I laughed my butt off during Rita when he was almost got blown out of the Port Arthur Holiday Inn...

That could be a classic story...

"I got my weather tip from the girl who was buying a box of burgers."

If things do not change, and it remains this large, the storm surge WILL be stronger than would normally be expected to be associated with that wind strength.

I don’t think this point is being over-hyped.

Now that would be interesting. I am a little annoyed with the reporters. It’s going to be bad, we know that, but honestly I swear, they’re going on like there is going to be nothing left.

Like NN says, prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

LOL, my mom said that I should sleep through it. :-)

It looks like the new models are still in agreement with the old ones. I think the track is prety well set.

File that one under ‘silver lining.’

A valid point. I guess I just want someone to give me something other than doom and gloom.

My uncle said this reminds of of Carla from 1961. He said that was the worst he rode out.

I hate the waiting aspect of it. I know I shouldn’t wish it faster, but waiting is ...not my best virtue.

I keep doing double takes at the winds 12 hours after landfall

It can’t possibly still be a hurricane in dallas, and up near Arkansas

thank you for your devotion to keeping these threads going girlfriend!

I cant imagine all that water in Gal/Houston area. My couple years of living in Houston were “interesting” to see after a SHORT HEAVY rain, the road dips (under another road) FILLED with water & cars floating. Men & women in business suits swimming thru the waters pushing their cars.. that image really stayed with me. All rains produced flooding in streets, neighborhoods.

Prayers for safety for everyone. “My beach” Matagorda will no doubt be affected. It was just a very small fishing community closer to corpus of maybe 300 or so people.. very rugged & primitive area..

If you go to the “discussion” link up top, and hit the “storm surge” map ...

They call it “experimental”... but there are a whole load of 20+ surges indicated on that map.
