My father was a Democrat.He worked through the depression(yes,there was work),he went to Harvard,(hauled radiators up and down the dorm stairs for three months,he was a pipe fitter and he hated those snot nosed rich bastids with a passion)he went to war in the South Pacific,came home and started a family.Normal guy...he died in 1984,and I still miss him ...my father would not recognize the modern Democratic Party, let alone vote for any of them. the Democratic Party today is built on the rotting foundation of the Vietnam War protest movement and the Gay Rights Movement,the "Wymyns" movement,and every other "movement" of the so called "oppressed".I do not think that Harry Truman or JFK could even poll 5% in a Democratic Primary today.I. like Zell Miller was "born" a Democrat, but I didn't leave the party, it left me.
As far as I’m concerned, the transformation of the RAT party into the freak show we see today began with the “Great Society.”
(I’m referring here only to events within my own lifetime.)
Can you picture any dummycrat saying, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country?”
I mean with a straight face, and mean it.
I see a lot of Democrats who live conservatively yet vote with the liberals. A lot of it has to do with the schools plus the old slogans. I wish they would wake up!
My dad still stays this whenever we argue, even though it is obviously no longer true.

Once upon a tyme, say prior to 1968, they made a nod at representing the little guy, the union members, and other common folks, but what they have since morphed in to is a gaggle of largely competing special interests ( we used to call ‘em “pressure groups.” ) who band together warily, with the goal of using the might and majesty of the Federal Gooberment to pry money from other groups they dislike.
Not coincidentally, this usually means infringing on said disfavored groups freedoms and rights, as well.

Yes I have heard that quote numerous times.It’s still BS.
Since I have a few more years on you, I can tell you there was quite a bit of resentment at the time against RINO’s.
That was what Republicans called “Reagan Republicans”.
My father like yours was democrat, a union tradesman and a WW2 vet. My Dad died when he was 40, I’m 57. My father and I both shared this common belief. We hate communism and marxism because it destroys the human spirit God gave us all. If my Dad was alive today he’d vote the same as I do. Pro Life, Pro Gun, Pro Family, Pro America, Pro Freedom.
So, according to your world view, people cannot evolve and, as they learn more about the world through their life experiences, change course? I disagree with that notion because, aside from politics, I can absolutely tell you I am not the same person I was when I was 20 as I am today. I have matured and some of my views have changed. Not morals, but opinions and viewpoints regarding issues and perceptions of people.
I also disagree with your definition of RINOS, since obviously your opinion is that it includes those members to the party that arrived after a set point in time - what, 1980? I view the party much like the parables in the Bible where even those converting to Christianity late in the game enter into heaven - that it doesn't matter when you joined the belief system so much as it matters that you share common beliefs.
As I said, I am a conservative republican, both fiscally and socially. I reserve the label of RINO for those people (like my own Senator, Chuck Hagel), whose only discernible affiliation with the Republican party is the R behind their name.
