Saying that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin "scares the hell out of me," former New York Mayor Ed Koch endorsed fellow Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday.
In 2004, Koch backed President Bush for re-election saying the Republican incumbent was better equipped to combat international Islamic terrorism than Democratic candidate John Kerry.
Koch, who was mayor of New York from 1977 to 1989, said he has concluded that the country would be safer in the hands of Obama and running mate Joe Biden than presidential candidate John McCain and Palin.
"Protecting and defending the U.S. means more than defending us from foreign attacks," Koch said, citing such concerns as civil liberties, abortion rights, gay rights and access to health insurance.
Koch said he is particularly troubled by Palin's record in those areas.
"It's Palin primarily," he said. "She scares the hell out of me."
Koch called Palin a "plucky, exciting candidate" but also said: "If the vice president were ever called on to lead the country, there is no question in my mind that the experience and demonstrated judgment of Joe Biden is superior to that of Sarah Palin."

Truth scares the hell out of people like that. They loose their control over people.
Well, Domestic issues are once again trumping national security issues with former crossover Bushies. We are getting further and further removed from 9/11 in all too many people's minds.
Koch endorsing Obama because of domestic issues confirms that Liberals once again believe the world is a safe place, and National health Care and Abortion Rights are the real freedoms being threatened.....
Sigh....
He is 84. I think he is losing it. Barry Sotero has him hoodwinked.
Good, shows she is a great candidate. He should be more afraid of Hussein.
That proves it. Liberals/Democrats are girlie men. Of course, I do think she could whup him, but still, the fact that he's willing to admit it...well, there you go.

***Interesting take. Perhaps he could cite where such things are mentioned in the constitution?
Ed Koch did NYC talk radio years ago, billing himself as a “liberal with sanity”. Looks like he’s lost it!
LOL.
I hope they are.
The old man just had too much wine.
Typical metrosexual with arrested adolescent development.
Must you ask???
Here's one: she's a fiscal conservative, and George Bush never NEVER vetoed a single spending bill while federal spending has skyrocketed.
Here's another: George Bush indicated he WOULD SIGN a revived "Assualt weapons" ban...
Is Koch afraid that he won’t be able to get an abortion?
Be afraid , be very afraid. He He He
Sarah “scares the hell out of” Ed Koch?
Good, gooood...
Shows she’s not an effete Eastern liberal, as if further proof were needed.
No socilist bias there, huh ED?

Ed Koch is so yesterday I find it hard to believe that his opinion matters to anyone. Newsflash to Ed: Maybe you need to seek counseling if you are so easily scared. You might have anxiety disorder...try some Paxil!
Sorry bout the triple post. I think the server is still hiccupping.
Time for Ed to exit public life, stage left as it were, and leave the field to a new generation. Thanks Ed, but it's time to go.
