If any pundit should celebrate Sarah Palin, you might think it would be Judith Warner. The author of "Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety" is the Times' resident expert on the challenges women face in balancing career and family. But think again. Politics trumps female solidarity. Warner's column on Palin is perhaps the most vitriolic and condescending I've read. The Mirrored Ceiling is a few days old, but Warner's fury still rings fresh.
Excerpts [emphasis added]:
* It turns out there was something more nauseating than the nomination of Sarah Palin as John McCains running mate this past week. It was the tone of the acclaim that followed her acceptance speech. * Palin sounded, at times, like she was speaking a foreign language as she gave voice to the beautifully crafted words that had been prepared for her . . . But that wasnt held against her. Thanks to the level of general esteem that greeted her ascent to the podium, it seems weve all got to celebrate the fact that Americas Hottest Governor (Princess of the Fur Rendezvous 1983, Miss Wasilla 1984) could speak at all.

The liberal left. Idealogical Faschism by another name.
Who cares what this angry harpy has to say?
HEY GLGB, you are doing a great job...
Liberals are the gift that keeps on giving...
Keep digging Drivebys!
any negative article by the NYT can only give McCain/Palen a boost in the rest of the country.
Agreed: see the last line of this item.
Thanks Rob. Call me naive, though, but I was still shocked by the depth of Warner’s fury at a woman whose praises she would be singing were Palin a Dem.
does any actually buy this paper?

As I recall, Teddy Roosevelt had children with him when he was in the White House. And didn’t Lincoln aa well? The Veep has a nice home up near the Observatory in DC, and the Palin family might be a breath of fresh air in the dismal swamp that is DC.
add her to the blacklist, we are taking notes.
Time to start writing letters and emails again.

If you remember that the only thing that matters to liberal women is abortion, you’ll never be surprised. Add on a bad case of envy (also plaguing Republican women of a Certain Type), and you’ve got volcanic bursts of hysteria.
If there were a way to invest in psychiatric-care futures, I’d be rich after this election :-).
In my opinion you can't really call them ‘ideological’ because it's hard to find a consistent unifying thread of ideology. Feminists attacking a successful woman because she has her own opinions that differ from theirs is not ideologically consistent, at least to me it's not. They say they are for ‘a woman's right to choose’, but when a woman chooses a course different from theirs they disown her. Sounds like hypocrisy, not ideology.
Another Times columnist bashing Palin? Why am I not surprised..?
I was more shocked that the comments were almost uniformly echo-chamber...I guess no one with a brain is reading the NYT for opinion any more...That should help them continue their slide into the abyss...
If she is a “Working-Mom,” her husband must be a Stay-At-Home turkey baster.
Ugh, guilty. And insanely jealous.
Judith is not so bad in person. I think Judith is really just bummed out because Sarah P. has more kids, yet tighter abs, than she does.
