Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.
Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Possible Mutiny on the Carnival Miracle?
Could passengers stage a mutiny and take over a cruise ship?
It could if the cruisers had anticipated a balmy week in the Caribbean. But because of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hanna, they were rerouted to exotic . . . Newport, R.I.?
According to USA Today, Carnivals Miracle left New York last Friday and was supposed to sail eight nights with stops in San Juan, St. Thomas and Grand Turk Island. But when faced with Hanna, Carnival announced the ship would go no further than Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas.
As the storm made its way to the Bahamas, Carnival changed plans again, dropping the Nassau trip and turning the back to spend the night in Rhode Island. The cruise ship will return to New York tomorrow.
Various reports have at least one passenger posting a diatribe called, Mutiny on the Miracle 8/29/08; to a cruise Web site saying, People starting chanting REFUND REFUND!!! and giving no gratuities to show their displeasure at being diverted to Port Canaveral, Freeport and Rhode Island.
I can see their point: According to Carnivals Miracle Web site, accommodations started at $999.

There are a couple of models that show a dip then a hook, still arriving here.
There is a big high working up over the rockies, depends on how fast the storm moves across the gulf. If it is fast it can go down if slow???????????
Bump to follow.
That’s so tough .. wondering, worrying, waiting.
Hang in there .. and may God bless and protect
you and yours.
NHC is aimed at Baffin Bay.
Are you still vacationing in ObamaLand?
WFLA news tonight stated Cuba has reported four fatalities from Ike, mostly due to falling debris.
If you look at arkady_renko’s .gif in 489 you can see lows in the Bay of Campeche and Tampiquilas that seem to be luring Ike.
